So when did you last go to visit HER ?
She hasn't visited you (and is nervous of driving alone) but you haven't gone to see her either it seems, Six of one half a dozen of the other maybe ?

Last week monday on DS birthday. I did a 80 mile round trip to see her and her granddaughter. I even offer to take granddaughter to stay with us and I will drive her back. She can drive by herself. She has been driving for 30 plus years. So nervous driving alone?

You'd be surprised -A friend posted the other week that she wanted to go to a TV show at Elstree but had no way of getting there. I was driving (sort of) past her part of Essex on my way there so picked her up. Turns out she only drives to work and as far as Lakeside-is too scared to drive on a large dual carriageway let alone a motorway-she has been driving thirty years too )not sure 50 is "slightly elderly" tho !!!

Funny enough I am in Essex too. She has driven plenty of times though on a motorway with me. She also drove to basildon, clacton etc. Shes in her early 60s I think hence me saying slightly elderly lol.

How insensitive of her, what's wrong with the family getting a taxi. If I had invited family/friends over I would either take them or get them a taxi, I would no way ask anyone with a 5 year old to take them. Stay firm with her, then maybe then she'll realise she's gone too far this time.

She is clearly a very self-centered person lacking the ability to think of the impact of her needs on others. The world revolves around her.

What matters is that you stick to your gun, which you did, good on you, and hopefully, she is so set in her bubble that she won't even react and be angry with you. If she does get upset, then your hubby will need to explain to her why it was unacceptable for her to expect such disruption in your life to suit around her and that if she'd planned it all better, there would have been no need for her to make such a request in the first place.
