One week sanction and you're going to lose your home?
  • I have to agree with you all. It is silly that I have to go through this all..I worked for the NHS for a good few years and I helped alot of people and I always log onto the gateway everyday and I apply for jobs, I apply so much that every week I'm provided more than there standard sheets they give with proof of jobs..and going on Universal jobmatch to look for jobs across the country. The majority of people tell me i'm 'overqualified' because I have 20+ qualifications from university to independent courses to even GCSEs..
All I get from the jobcentre is 'good keep it up. 4 words no help..

Thanks guys and girls...I understand dooka now, i misread your post in terms of context. i understand so sorry to say that....i see what your saying now and thats a very good point..

@Donna...my jobcentres in a smalltown so the staff r pretty noisy..if they ask me then tomorrow why i want a going away form whats best to say?..
just say you are going away to look for work if you feel they will be difficult if you just said for a holiday. you will have to say on the form what you will do anyway. the usual things are look in local papers, ask around, hand out cv's to employers, visit local jobcentre to use jobpoints. they never actually check this and even though you have to be contactable and willing to come back early they never do. i have even had a jobcentre worker say to me we never phone people so dont worry.

You can be excused from looking for work for a maximum 2 weeks in a rolling twelve month period but you still have to be available. So you can go away and not be looking for work but you will not recieve benefit if you are unavailable.
Would you be willing to retun home if offered an interview or a job to start?
the problem they seem to be having is their jobcentre is telling them they cant go away just for a holiday.
  • Thanks Donna that was very helpful. How much notice do you think I should give them I go away on a sunday..but the friday before i get my jsa payment? also do all jobcentres keep the es674 form?

whenever i have used the form i have handed it in on the last working day before i went away.
do you mean do they all have them available for people to ask for? i would think so. i have never refered to it as an es674 form when asking for one. i just say can i have a going away form.

An additional point is that if you managed to arrange some kind of job interview there during your absence they would pay your travel cost, so long as you asked for it before leaving.
