in Water bills
Pay twice a year and the bill issued in June is always much more, almost double. Any reason for this ?

Until recently our supplier Anglian Water issued 2 bills a year, one of which was estimated. If they estimated much too low then that bill was low but the next bill was much higher to compensate for the low estimate.
They have now sorted that by only issuing one bill a year!
Could that be the case with your bills?
I presume your usage in cubic metres varies in line with the bills.0 -
If the amount of water used in each 6 month period was the same, the bills would be the same.
As suggested above, the reason is probably that the first bill is based on an under-estimated meter reading and so the correction appears on the second bill.0 -
Have yo looked into getting a meter. I pay 20 pounds a month for 2 of us in a 3 bed semi, and it usually covers the year.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

The OP must surely have a meter.
If he didn't, and hence was charged on the Rateable Value, the exact annual amount(to the nearest penny) is known in advance and the bill would be split equally.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
I am on a meter and have checked the bill in Dec. 2012
May 2012 - Nov 2012 = 32 cubic metres
Nov 2012 - May 2013 = 74 cubic metres
So thats the difference. Just wondering why I would use so much more in the Winter. Central heating ??
Meter read on both bill.0 -
Are you sure the initial meter reading in May 2012 was based on an actual reading and not estimated?
If both bills are based on actual(not estimated) meter readings for start and finish then it is a puzzle.
There is no reason why the winter should use more water.
You could well have a leak, so I would check quickly and not wait intil Nov when next reading is due.
The commonest form of internal leak is a cistern overflowing (silently) into the toilet bowl.0 -
In the winter you are indoors more, more homecooking=more dishes, more clothes to wash, more long baths etc.......could be miles off the mark but worth thinking about.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Your CH system is sealed and does not consume water, or only a tiny amount to top it up.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
