Halifax survey taking forever. Is this common?

I don't know who my buyers are getting their mortgage through, but their building survey wasn't carried until 6 weeks after I accepted their offer; then after that it was over a week before they got their report.
From reading the various threads on here it does seem that the more in-depth the survey required, the longer it takes to carry out.Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes (Oscar Wilde)

Same with our buyers in 2011. They were uber-keen from the outset - with a week already in mind for completion (being imposed on them by their buyers) which they never ceased reminding us about - yet it was five weeks before we had their surveyor contact us. This was for a homebuyer's report, but on a quirky, old and quite rambling property - he was there for 3 1/2 hours - so not sure if that had any bearing on things........
All I do know is that it was Esurv and they were rubbishI have a feeling their lender wasn't a regular high street one......Paragon springs to mind.
Anyhoo, once the survey was done everything moved much quicker and we still managed to complete during the week specified originally - so what with it being known that there are delays with Halifax and the fact that (assuming no major issues are thrown up) it can be all systems go once the survey is out of the way, I wouldn't stress too much OP - easy for me to say, I knowMortgage-free for fourteen years!

myn took days through themDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Hi ,
Just an update from my first reply to OP.
The survey with Hailfax has now been moved to next week after our EA got onto our buyer saying that the timescale of seven weeks was unacceptable for a survey to be carried out. It has now been moved to next week after originally being booked for the 10th Aug. This was achieved by the buyer contacting Hailfax directly instead of leaving it up to their mortgage broker to chase it.
I hope this helps.

We had to wait three weeks for valuation, through Nationwide, after instructing it on 24 May. Deal then fell apart, because of the valuation results, so put in another offer on a property in the same area. Waited less than a week between instruction and date of valuation. Things are all over the place at the moment.0

OP I don't suppose you're using contractor financials? Bunch of jokers!!! We are in same situ-husband is a contractor and the things we went through by using them were appalling!!0

Thanks @starsky27, not sure its worth it phoning them up as our survey is now 3 weeks away... Besides, we don't even know our application roll number0

We're (hopefully) buying through Halifax. As we had heard the massive backlog with their surveyors (Colleys) we booked our Homebuyer separately. This was done and received by a local company a week ago. Colleys only booked the valuation this week, after chasing. This is nearly three weeks after the fee being taken. However they have now booked in for Wednesday. Would definitely have been longer with any other level of survey. Very common at the moment.Saving for a deposit. £5440 of £11000 saved so far:j0
