Vendor / Estate agent didn't mention wind farm!

When they do a search they only do a local one IE same street or very close not 1 km away. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Oh dear, did you read the original post? Did I say I was against them? I'd have liked the choice of whether to buy a house so near to them. Perhaps I still would, all things being equal. Misplaced rant I fear...high horse etc. Calm down dear, it's only a little forum.0 -
Presumably when you went in tothe council offices and chatted to the Planners, looked at the Local Plan etc, they also hid this from you?
It amazes me how little research people undertake themselves, either on their £00,000s property, or the area they are moving to. Even to the extent many people don't even review the documents their solicitors send them ("that's what I pay a solicitor to do").
Frankly, the furory that windfarms provoke it is almost impossible NOT to find out about them in advance. Local paper? Library? The neighbour (you did knock on the neighbour's door before buying....?).
They recently built 5 turbines near me.There was a massive campaign against them (and a tiny campaign I started in support!).
We need them. Whether they are or remain, 'economic' is only half the story. The real madness is our dependance on gas from Russia (!!!) and oil from the middle east/Africa. And the miniscule reserves we keep in the UK (it's more economic to deliver it 'just in time'!!).
Every tiny KW we generate at home is a KW less we need to rely on from Russia.
(sorry folks - rant over...)
You're spot on though, to be so dependant on Russia and not negotiate a more secure deal is shocking by the government. To worried about the PR of dealing with a renegade state to actually worry about its own people0 -
I love watching wind turbines, they are very elegant. And mesmerizing to watch. I really don't know why people think they are unsightly. Maybe I should buy your house0

FWIW I would have no qualms buying a house with wind turbines 1km away and visible.
It's a shame you didn't get the choice but maybe once you've had time to reflect, it won't seem so terrible?0 -
Now you;re in there just enjoy it. Else if you get worked up then it'll be harder for it to just be something you hardly notice like the other one.
Yes it sucks but the chances of being able to take this far enough to get a lot of compensation is a long, long, long road and no doubt they know enough about the law to defend most arguments.
Once it's built, it's built and you'll soon forget it's there.
I hope it all works out positively for you.Nice to save.0 -

Good attempt at wittiness, though it may well fall flat when you realise that wind farm planning permissions normally allow turbines to be erected for a temporary period of 25 years, after which they have to be removed or get a new permission...0 -
And around 300 years ago when they started building windmills all across Norfolk (those cute buildings that now change hands for astronomical figures and are converted into high-class restaurants etc)..... they were considered by many to be the work of Satan!0
