switching off or deleting emergency number function
Hy, I started playing around with my panasonic x400.
It had no sim card in it.
Suddenly, or because I pressed a wrong button, it went to emergency number.
When I tried to switch it off it decided to dial an emergency number
, with no sim card in it.
How can I switch this function off???? or delete the function altogether ????

Yeh, pretty sure you can't turn it off.
You never know you might need it someday.0 -

how would that work as it has no information of which network to connect to, I don't think it works at all(likewise if you are out of your own network coverage unlike some countries that route your emergency call through to another network it doesn't happen in the UK even if your phone displays SOS calls only or Emergency calls only, thats just the default software but wont work in practice)0 -
Emergency calls can roam on to any network
in the UK as well; I've used it0 -
I don't think thats correct, the consensus on uk.telecom.mobile seems to be the same and backed up by information that the UK networks agreed to disable the function quite a while ago, excerpt from mobileshop.org's website

Emergency Calls
To make an emergency call, dial 112. This sets up a priority call to the emergency operator, cutting through any network congestion. 999 will also work in the UK, but may not get priority treatment from the mobile network.
Some phone manuals or displays suggest that you can make an emergency call through another network if your network has no coverage, or with no sim card in the handset. Although the GSM specification requires this facility in the hardware, none of the UK networks will accept such calls. No sim, or no service from your network, and you can't make that emergency call!"
It may be that your call found it's network as you made the call. That said it's very bad that the networks continue to keep this block for what could be a very useful system.0
