Cashback deals would just work through the standard links - virgin at the moment is upto £200 -- Assume you're familiar with how to use such sites?..

Yep, I'm happy using cashback sites, but the offers are fairly deal specific and I haven't seen any cashback offers for the 9 month student contract.

Plus a tiny spanner in the works... Virgin have now decided they don't offer cable broadband to the house, despite SamKnows and other sites saying they do, and I'm pretty sure the Virgin site said it did a couple of days ago

Anyone know anything about Sky fibre optic broadband minimum contract length as it's not clear from the website?

Sky Fibre is a 12 month contract, which is a big plus. However, it's quite pricey.

For this reason I'm in the process of jumping ship from Sky normal broadband and phone to Plusnet and taking a chance with Plusnet's 18 month contract (as I've owned my flat for 7 years and might fancy a change in a year or so, who knows?!)

Having said that about Sky being pricey, they often have decent Quidco cashback deals for new customers, so it might work out pretty good.

watch out if they can actually provide sky fibre.

I recently tried to upgrade with sky to fibre and get discount on TV too. They then came back saying couldnt provide it at my address, and claim I was tied in for 12months because they were giving me £5 discount off of it!..

I stuck to my guns, carried on with my complaint - quickly resolved and told I could move away..

Guess what, now have BT Infinity installed now with 75mb dload and 15mb upload.. the same service sky couldnt provide.

so sometimes the systems are not upto date (Computer say no)..

Strange, because Sky fibre is simply a resold BT product.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

TCB have an offer of £126 cashback at the moment with sky fibre unlimited: http://www.topcashback.co.uk/sky-digital/, it's £10/month for 6 months, then £20/month thereafter (ie 6 months as it's a 12 month contract) for unlimited data and speeds of up to 38Mbps. With line rental at £14.50/month (unless you can pay it upfront, I can't see the option on the website to do this), this works out as £19/month (inc cashback) which seems like a very good deal to me (c.f. £22.50/month for Virgin's unlimited student deal with 30Mbps, both have £50 instillation fee).

Also, I went into a Virgin Media store today to check whether I could get their broadband, the guy said they couldn't work out whether or not I could  So that's 3 different answers I've gotten on whether I can get it!! Apparently they'll send an engineer round in the next 10 days and give me a ring if they can...

Thats what made it more amusing - sometimes Sky's info isnt fully upto date.. Had heard a rumour that BT only allowed them so many 'slots' on the local cabinet?

Not that I was too fussed - on BT now (paid line rental for 12months).. Quidco £80 cashback, Sainsbury's Voucher on the way. Sky by way of an apology for the messup have credited me for 2 months TV - and have a contact in there complaints team to speak to when football season restarts to get a deal on adding sports back to my mix - as BT will be giving me there sports free.. WIN \ WIN...
