Bank account opened using friend's address.

My friend is furious having received bank statements to her address in the name of a woman who lives in America. She has known this woman for several years and she periodically comes over and stays for a few days. She seems to be having her mail redirected to my friend's house now, but how on earth did she manage to open a bank account with my friend's address? You normally have to provide utility bills and bank statements etc just to open an account. or at least be on the electoral roll.
To add insult to injury she has now opened an account for her son using this same address.
My friend has emailed her to ask how/why she has done this but has not received an answer.
Any ideas anyone?

Write "Not known at this address" on the envelope of the letters and put them back in the post.0

Suggest to your friend that she changes the details of a few of her DDs to this woman's account number, seeing money going out of the account might get her attention

Maybe the account has always been open.....
Take the statement to the bank concerned. State you have received this mail to your address. You can confirm that this person is not known and never lived at the address.
Now that will grab her attention as they will block the account.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

Branches can most likely do nothing. Meanwhile sticking any letters back in the post as "not known at this address" or "gone away" will get them sent to a specialist department who will take action to get their customer to contact them and update their details, which will likely include blocking their account and other forms of fun inconvenience.urs sinserly,

My question is how did she manage to open the account in the first place when you have to give proof of who you are and your address etc?
My friend is worried as she gets a 25% reduction in her Council Tax as she lives on her own, but getting this mail for someone else makes it look as though this woman and her son live there with her.0 -

Virtually anyone in rented accommodation will have someone else's post come through their letterbox. It really isn't worth worrying about.
So long as she's not on the electoral roll, which is really the only place the council will likely bother to look, don't sweat it. Write "not known at this address" on letters, place in postbox.urs sinserly,

Because this mail has only started arriving a couple of weeks ago. The son's bank statements started arriving this week.0
