Accident just before renewal VERY confused :-(
Options
:)Hello all,
My wife had a low speed bump whilst manouvering on the 1st July, reported it accepted fault and its all going through. She has three years no claims discount which would have been four this year.
Unfortunately her renewal is on the 20th July and we are trying to get sense form her online only insurer which is slow and tedious!
They are basicaly saying as resolving the claim will go beyond her renewal date, she will have to declare the collision (obviously) but her no claims will not be reduced until the claim is finalised. Thus she will have four years no claims still at the point of renewal.
This sounds bizzre to me, and Im just concerned where we stand when shopping around with other insurers. I would have thought we would have stated 1 year no claims when getting quotes? However, obviously if we went with a new insurer then any proof of no claims we provide for her current insurer will currently say four years. Just want to make sure everything is legal as she drives around with our three young kids in the car.
Any advice would be great, thank you

If it's her fault and she's accepting liability then you need to reduce the no claims when getting quotes from other companies.0

they may have a point, but i would reduce it. as nce its finalised you'll hae to give them the new number and pay the difference anyway0

just be careful if you are filling in forms with an unsettled claim - you'll get injury claims folk calling you all over the place! - happened to me when someone rear-ended me and I got a new car before the claim was settled...
The insurance company can't give you a policy based on what they claim might be so it would have to be settled before they can see the value of the claim - I had to update mine once the claim was settled (just cost me the admin charge)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thankyou. Theres no problem with injuries as she reversed into a parked car with no occupants at slow speed.
So if she takes insurance out with a new company, declares the accident, states 1 year NCD she should be fine?
The only problem then is she cant provide proof of 1 years NCD as the renewal will say 4 years0 -

Friend of mine got his van broken into whilst parked overnight. He did report it to the insurance co and is now getting 2 or 3 calls a day from personal injury lawyers.0 -
Might be a case of finding the best value online, then calling them up to clarify everything. I thought you lost 2 years for having a bump, although maybe it's 2 years and then you don't get one for the year that you had the bump.

I was getting this following an accident a couple of years ago. I blocked most of the numbers that were calling me but still got withheld numbers. The last 2 calls I asked for the persons name, phone number and address and said I was need it to know where to send the invoice for my time to. That was a month ago, not had one call since.0
