rant / funny / nothing better to do

where do i start. do some people have nothing better to do with their lifes?

I live in a block of flats which have 30 parking spaces for 24 flats. the spaces are not numbered and also states in the deeds that i have access to one space per flat with 6 bays for visitors. bays cannot be numbered.

my brother was moving house so stayed at mine for a week (i was away) and one of my kind neighbors decided to put a note on his windscreen after day 2. stating. this is a private parking area and he has no right to park there and will be reported to police for not having valid tax (it was taxed and in the post). so my brother did what any sane person would do. reply back.

on the main noticeboard in the flats he posted the original letter then replied with the following.

dear neighbour

you obviously have nothing better to do with your life than patrol the car park which i am entitled to park in as i am staying at xxx. if you would like to fill your time please feel free to check my tires and water are at the correct levels. if you still with to bother me you can also check the oil level.

this didn't go down well as it was ripped off the noticeboard.

since then all of my friends who come to pick me up / drop people off get hastled by this man for parking (they aren't staying just dropping) I have told them what to do. take "his" space when possible or park in front of his car.

the new game is to see who can take the longest at peeing him off as he comes out to confront us.

anyone got any better ideas how to deal with this fool.

Yes, stop deliberately taking this mans "space" and winding him up on purpose. Grow up and be the bigger person.

    Grow up

^^ Sums it up nicely for me.

Time to start acting like a grown up before the situation escalates and the police end up getting involved.

A better idea - ummmm, maybe not escalate it?
Sorry but it sounds to me that you are being just as petty as your neighbour. I agree that he does sound like a bit of a busy body but by leaving the note, all he was doing is looking out for the interests of all residents. Is parking at a premium in the area? For all he knew this, your brother as just some stranger using a parking space without permission.

Maybe a better response would have been for your brother to simply put a note in his car window saying "Temporarily staying at Flat X. Tax disk in the post"

    Everyone happy. End of story.

Actually, any sane person would simply have explained the situation so the chap knew the flat's parking spaces weren't being used by anyone else who was coming in off the street and just chancing their hand.

there is plenty of parking. I have never seen the car park full. it is in a residential area out of town.

And what would the police do, in a civil dispute situation?

    Please, just leave it alone.

The guy probably had a stressful day and couldn't find a parking space so he just did something a bit silly (which may have turned out to be reasonable, if the owner of the car wasn't staying in the flats).

Sure he could have been more polite - but sometimes we all get a bit annoyed and it seems out of proportion (chances are you are more annoyed because of soemthing unrelated and it just so happens this thing pushes you over the line).

The best thing to do would be to let it go. He made a mistake and was a bit rude. You replied in a rude way. At some point one of you needs to act like an adult and stop escalating it or it will keep going for ever and in 5 years you'll have some of the "neighbours from hell" situations you see on here all the time.

I've had awful neighbours, and snotty notes is nothing. But reacting to it in that way will just make it worse for everyone.

nothing better to do sums your post up best. Some people on this board have real problems, but you don't.

Funny? Yes, we sometimes get funny stories, but this isn't one of them.

    Rant? Hardly.

To be anal the car should be off the road even if the tax is in the post.

So an untaxed car driven by a person that nobody knew was asked not to park there on private property?

Isn't the mature reply "Understand, thanks for looking for everyone's interests- this was my brother's car who was using my space allocation while I was away" :)
