I am autistic and also suffer from depression and have mental health support(not mentally ill just the depression and autism)
Don't let people make an !!!! of you.
If you say no and they don't give up then leave them under no illusions that you had just said no.
If any sales person tried that with me they would quickly regret even trying.0 -

I don't think the OP should have to stay indoors or buy online. Just because someone has autism doesn't mean they should stay indoors away from the sharks.
Perhaps the salesman saw someone who seemed vulnerable and applied pressure? Granted the salesman wouldn't have known the OP had autism, but either way, pressure should not be a sales tactic.0 -
I have family members who are on the autism spectrum and I also work with people with autism and depression. Sadly, some sales reps will push people who may appear be more vulnerable. It can be very hard to not get flustered by the pressure so I completely understand where you're coming from OP.
OP, I would put it in writing. Is it a national store? If so, write to the head office. If you want to, you could state that you felt particularly pressured as you have autism and depression.Optima semper libera sunt

Hey Viberduo. I would say head back to the store and speak to management, unfortunately retail assistants may not have the authority to allow customers leeway with the returns policy/perhaps the person who told you that it was too late was new or uninformed. Management are likely to apply a lot more commonsense and understanding to your situation. If the manager is also a pestering wheeler-dealer type, stand your ground!
I'd also suggest you offer feedback on how pushy the salesperson was and that you were uncomfortable with their service (can only benefit their future customers). Scrutinize their receipt, 7 days is not long where many retailers offer 30 and few days overlap. Also double check OFT (Office of Fair Trading) to get clued up all of your consumer rights. Despite the item being in working order, fit for purpose and not faulty (i.e. the Sale of Goods Act), you still have a strong position for a refund.0 -

In what way are they in a strong position for a refund? What will the OFT do? There's nothing faulty. The consumer has just bought something they don't want.
There's nothing wrong with the goods as such.
How do we know the assistant took advantage? Mental illness isn't always visible. Pushy sales assistants aren't exactly out of the ordinary in any store. Not wanting to be rude but if your that vulnreable, take someone with you.
OP do you have a copy of the receipt to hand? Are they a chain store? Name the store so someone can offer more advice0 -

Even though retailers do not have to allow returns, by stating that they will do so they have added this condition to the contract (it becomes an implied part of the contract) and then by not allowing the return they have acted illegally.

I don't wish to be rude to the OP but you've said you've a condition. Have you fully understoof the conditions? Perhaps you could name/post on here and we can give you more ammunition?
Let us know how you get on0
