BT Vision - Thoughts??

Options
Hey Guys,

I'm considering buying BT Vision the £15 unlimited version which gives me the movie and sports channels.

The question is, is it really worth £15 per month, I'm currently using Freesat which I am happy with - but really want some sports and movie channels.

Would it be best just to go with Sky?

Also I noticed that BT Vision uses Freeview, the problem is our Freeview reception is terrible. Would they fix this when installing?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

ok to answer your points in not the order you asked them.

No they wouldnt fix your freeview reception you would need to get an aerial company to come and do that at your own expense.

BT Vision has no movie channels like sky do. What they do have is on demand content which includes movies. These movies change but are not the latest releases etc. It depends what type of films you want. Prince of persia and cars 2 are two of the latest additions as an example.

BT sport hasn't started yet (Aug 1st) but they have announced what premier league games they are showing and you can check their website to see what other sports they have coverage of.

Is it worth £15 p/m? Thats up to you. For me it is as my family use the on demand content a fair bit (mostly tv boxsets and kids programmes).

Should you go with sky? Again up to you. There is a lot more content on sky compared to bt vision but then you pay a lot extra for that content. If you wanted movies and sports then the package is expensive imo. There are 50% deals around but it comes down to whether you are prepared to pay what they want for what you will get.

The only definite advice id give is dont touch bt vision unless you get your freeview signal problems sorted out.

No, your Freeview reception is no concern of BT's. The on-demand content of BTV is delivered via your broadband connection, so you'd need a line that supports at least 3Mbps.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • OK then thanks for the advice, am I right in saying the on demand content (the movies) are only rented and this costs extra money, I think I saw it was £3.50 per film!

And if Prince of Persia has just been released - I may as well just stick with Netflix where it's unlimited movies and watches for £5.99.

If you have BT Infinity (FTTC) broadband, then with Vision you can get an additional 18 (IIRC) 'premium' channels delivered via Multicast (IPTV). I subscribe because they have Discovery, Nat Geo and History which I quite enjoy, but also have SyFy, Gold, TLC and a few other channels you'd find on subscription on the Sky platform.

Apart from a few teething issues with Multicast, it's been pretty reliable, and does allow you to record content via the IPTV service.

I haven't used the on-demand service as I think it's a bit pricey for what it is, and have Netflix which seems way better for films and series.

There are two sets of on-demand movies on BT Vision. There's a selection of old stuff that comes free with the appropriate subscription.
Then there's the new stuff that's pay-per-view only, whatever subscription you have.

If you get Infinity (not standard ADSL), and if your exchange is multicast-enabled (most are by now), then there's a number of extra channels streamed over the broadband.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
