can anyone advise how to pay a swiss speeding fine.

Avis who rented me the car (Basel Airport) have forwarded on the Swiss Police Fine letter (30 days to pay) 100 CHF, (avis taking a 35 CHF Admin Fees)

I will likely travel back to switzerland so may aswell pay the fine.

The letter has no website or email contact address..

Its never easy is it. can anyone offer an apple app that scans german into english

the fine has a paying in slip, i guess its the bank or post office who can deal with it, for a fee.

if only a wbsite with payment functionality was available.

  • Are you sure that Avis won't be paying the fine on your behalf and charging your card?

    You could try this approach:

Have a look for a compte postal (CCP) number on the fine (looks like 12-34567-8).

If you find one, you can convert it to an IBAN here: https://www.postfinance.ch/en/cust/acc/iban.html

Then you can use the IBAN with a service like http://transferwise.com/ to send them the money...

Make sure you include some sort of reference number so they can associate the payment with your fine.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
  • thanks benjus. i've just seen an iban on the top of the letter, it wasn't on the payslip, added a reference and did it on my internet banking. £9fee oh well nothing to worry about now..

avis just charge an admin fee 35CHF for sending the letter. they advise to make inquiries directly to the agency.. swiss law requires them only to forward the personal details..

We also rented a car from Avis at Basel airport in July this year. 2 days ago, we got a letter informing us that, while travelling in France, a speed camera caught us over the speed limit.

The Avis administration fee quoted in the letter is CHF 50 "in accordance with our rental conditions (act. 6j)". I can't find our rental contract papers just now; but I have checked Avis swiss website and the administration fee says CHF35 (???!!) as in OP.

whatyadoinsucka: if you still have your rental contract; could you tell me what act.6j reads pls? Thanks!
