Ebay, Autotrader, Gumtree advert in the car window, Local papershop, Supermarket sales board etc.
Dont overprice it and dont give a 3rd party money to find potential buyers and sell your car.
If they want £50 you can lower the price by £50 making it more of a bargain to buyers.

We used dealerbid about a year or so ago to sell our car and had a good reponse and the dealer who bought the car paid quite a bit more than we could get anywhere else and picked the car up. I guess it will depend on what you are selling. My advice would be to get a price off we buy any car as a starting point and then use the site to get some competing offers, if I remember rightly we got quite a bit more.0

I am actually the general manager of a motor dealer who has been registered with dealerbid for a few years now and can say it does definietly work and we do purchase a lot of cars from the site but it will I should imagine depend on A. what it is you are selling and B. if you are being realistic with what you expect to get.
We have been using a similar site in the trade for many years which is trade only and we obviously are realistic with our prices because we are all singing off the same hymn sheet all being in the trade. What we have found with some (not all) sellers on dealerbid.co.uk is that although as a dealer who is buyer the car for stock to retail and can therefore offer more money in nearly all cases than the likes of we buy any car, some sellers are expecting retail money (what we are going to sell the car for).
I would say certainly if you have been looking at prices from car buying websites that the site should help you achieve a better price down to the shear fact that most dealers buy to retail and not trade on like we buy any car and alike but if you are expecting autotrader prices you are going to have to sell privately. I guess as the saying goes you cant have your cake and eat it. :-)0 -

Hi,
It would really depend on the car. We obviously have trade guides from the likes of CAP and Glass's but these are just guides and prices aren't set in stone. Also different dealers will want different margins. A main dealer for example will usually need more of a margin as the car will need to be prepared to the highest standard, Audi for example will only allow a car approved car to be sold with a certain tyres depth which means your tyres might be fine for an independent dealer but a main dealer might need to replace all your tyres hence another cost.
The price for your car will change from dealer to dealer, we buy a lot of cars from dealerbid but we do often get out bid by other dealers who possibly may have a client lined up and will pay more.
Getting back to your original question with regard to margin I would say most independent dealers are going to need around £1500-£2000 and main dealers possibly more - this doesn't mean they will necessarily pay less for your car though as they can sell for a higher price.
Remember if there is a margin of say £1500
The buyer will no doubt want some discount - Say £300
Then the car will need prep - (service, MOT, clean, possibly a bit of paintwork) - £300
Advertising Costs - £100
Salesmans Commission £50
VAT - £300
Profit - £450
And this obviously doesn't take into account premises costs wages etc so a £1500 margin is actually quite small.0 -
Saw their details on a Telegraph article, but can't find many reviews or forum posts of people using them, so not sure if they are genuine or not.
Got contacted by three dealers in total over 10 days, all offering several hundred pounds less (between £800 and £500) than the cash buying websites!! Basically, they are looking at a margin of at least £2,000. Car advertised is low mileage and in very good condition...
Plus the formatting of the advert is a nightmare, as all the text is showing in one block, without line returns, and the three pictures (maximum number) are all looking truncated and in a different ratio.
www.dealerbid.co.uk = waste of money and time0 -
I always sell on Autotrader. Price your car above the Cat c/d cars but at the lower end of similar models. Always worked for me. I have had dealers calling with silly offers but sit tight for a reasonable price.Je suis sabot...0

It will depend on what you are offering I suppose. We buy a lot of cars from the site and especially if it is something we have a potential client for we can in most cases pay a little more than usual.
We don't end up buying every car we make an offer on but very seldom are we beaten by the normal car buying websites its usually another dealer on the site so I surprised you didn't have much luck.0 -
I was offering a car in very good condition, full service history and low mileage. Therefore, was expecting quite a few decent offers, at least above cash buying websites!
Car is now advertised on Autotrader and eBay, and is getting some good level of interest, above the cash buying website, and I have a firm buyer now.
So my conclusion is still the same: Dealerbid.co.uk is a waste of £10.0 -
Very helpful insight. Thanks jerrynbbt.0
