Vodafone - has this happened to you?

We put £10 credit on our year old daughters' mobile phone at around 10:30am today. She called her dad at 15.20 this afternoon to thank him for putting the credit on. At 17.45 her credit was down to 1.70. All she had done in the interim was sent 2 text messages. Enquiries with Vodafone lead us to believe that certain companies have been sending her text messages for which she has been charged. These messages are not on her phone and she has never seen or opened any strange text messages. As far as we are concerned, these text messages are unsolicited and the charges taken are no more than theft. In fact, when we called Vodafone at 18.45 to discuss the credit whilst her credit was still 1.70. By 20.30pm her credit was down to 20p. Her phone had been in my possession since 17.45pm and there had been no calls and no texts. The credit had mysteriously disappeared. We’ve gone to ICSTIS and lodged a complaint and we’re going to cut her sim card up and get her a new one.

Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do about it?

yeah i am on vodaphone however on contract had a number of these premium text messages charges but no texts received. Vodaphone have now sorted out blocking them for me and was able to confirm the exact company they were coming from and what to do about it.

Nightmare but vodaphone seemed helpful enough and so far so good..... although time will tell as its not been long enough to see if i still have issues.

    Hi MATH

Working for Vodafone, I'd say by the sound of it your daughter is receiving text information services or Premium rate reverse texts. Although your daughter may not recieve them, the company sending them to you will still charge

We are able to trace them and tell you where they are coming from, but we are unable to block them without blocking ALL text messages.

We can however supply you with the company details, in order for you to get them stopped, and claim a refund from them.

If you want to get in touch with us, you can do so by using the Contact Us section on the Vodafone website, then using the option to send an email. If you include FIT135 in the body of the text, the email will be routed to a team who can help.

Thanks for your replies. Vodaphone have supplied the details of the two companies involved and we are in the process of claiming her money back from them. I'm not too hopeful of a satisfactory outcome though!
Does anyone know how my daughters phone was selected by these companies? She hasn't requested/seubscribed to any phone services or downloaded any ring tones or wallpaper or anything like that.

not that you know of lol, these companies have to refund you if it is not a genuine request, did she get a recycled number that maybe had this request already activated ?

it maybe back charges if no texts are coming through
