Prepaid Internet?

Hello everybody!
The studioflat I am living in has a quite bad internet connection. Actually not that bad but when it comes to use skype it is relly bad.
If you consider that the internet connection is shared by 6 flats, it makes sense that it is not that good.
I was wondering if there exist such usb-stick for laptops/netbooks through which I could surf in a flatrate modus. Something like prepaid without a contract.
Is there something like that?
I would really appreciate it if you could give me some suggestion.
Many thanks in advance
Bye

You can go for mifi. However, don't recommend if you don't know other people usage.

If the only problem is skype, could u use 3G from ur mobile?

you can get a wireless dongle, or mifi device. Depending on the signal strength in your flat.

this can be got on 30 day rolling contracts (you can get payg as well, but is usually more expensive)

if you use the cashback deals and such you can even get the device pretty cheap.

    Thank you.
Sorry, what do you mean with mifi device. Do you mean something like that: http://www.o2.co.uk/broadband/mobile-broadband/o2-pocket-hotspot?cm_mmc=googleuk-_-MBB-_-Mobile%20Wifi-_-Mifi%20-%20Device%20-%20Exact%20mifi%20device%20Exact&gclid=CK30sYTIsbgCFXLLtAodL3AApw

And what do you mean with "you do not recommend if I do not know other people usage"?
But I am looking for something that I would use instead of the internet connection of my landlord which I am paying 1 pound per day. Such devices seem to have a limited downloaded data.

A wireless dongle seems to be exactly the same as a mifi device. I do not see any differencies. Sorry for being not expert in such things.
Since the flat I am living in is a sort of short term flat. I do not know how long I am going to stay in this flat. I am still looking for something else. Anyway, since it is a short let flat, I assume I cannot do any kind of contract, can I? If I find an alternative, I would not pay for the internet connection of the landlord, which costs 1 pound per day, I would then rather use my own connection. But I do not know what could be the solution.
If I buy one of these devices than I will have a limited download amount of data, which is also not necessarily good.
I thought, there are some sort of usb-flatrate contract or pay-as-you go- usb-flatrate devices. They might not exist jet.

USB modem plugs into the device. MiFi can work as a USB modem, but can also create a WiFi HotSpot.
No need for a contract, but then everything costs more. Try first for a 30 day contract. Use Quidco to get some CashBack.

If using PAYG, expect to pay around £4 per GB.

    I may be mis-understood...
Do you mean you want internet access for yourself only? Or internet access for everyone in 6 flats?

i took it to mean the current internet is shared between 6 people, and he wants one on his own.

You can still get a contract, as you can get 30 day rolling contracts, these basically mean you just have to give 30 days notice before cancelling, and as you usually have to give a months notice when moving out, you can get notice for both at the same time.

Many thanks you all! Oh yes, maybe I could make a contract but the question is whether I am allowed. Just to clarify:
The studio-flat I am living in is one of the six in this house. The plug-socket for internt is in the flat near mine. There is connected the modem to which then alle 6 flats are connected via wirefire.
If I want to make a contract on my own, I assume I will need a telephon plug-socket, won't I?
So that why I was wondering if it is possible to make a sort of contract but without to need a telephone plug-socket but through usb.

Mobile Internet does not require a telephone line, but a mobile telephone signal.

    So you're paying ~£30/mo currently.

For £18/mo you could get one of 3's new contracts, 30 day rolling, unlimited data, and tether it via a cheap android handset.
