Looks like they credit check you looking at FAQ1
    http://www.brighthouse.co.uk/faqs/

Catalogues like 'very' report to CRAs and I suspect these guys would too.

Do you need to use Bright House? The APR may be advertised at a 'reasonable' 29.9%, but it's slightly misleading. The 'standard prices' (e.g. amount of credit) can sometimes be twice as much as a respectable retailer would price the same item at. In reality, expect to pay for the item twice.

    thanks for the replies.

thanks for the link Happy |Bunny, il check that out,

and Brendon, no I guess I dont really need to use Bright House- I always said I wouldnt use places like this, I think they are one huge rip off.
However, I have never had any sort of credit before and really dont understand credit scores/ratings etc, so Im trying to build a good credit report and I figure if I get from BrightHouse, pay in full and on time- it can only improve my file.

What about getting a mobile contract instead, if building your credit rating is what you're after.

I have a pay monthly sim only contract, but I checked my file on equifax and it does not show up so I just assumed it didnt count. I have the phone, sky tv, tesco broadband and contents insurance but none of these show up.

Thanks for the advice though, hopefully it will be taken into account when I apply for credit
  • I don't think Brighthouse is a good start.

There are many other cheaper and easier options.

What about a bad credit card, wherby you repay in full and hence pay nothing but what you have spent?
  • hi my aunt uses bright house and she said they do credit check you before they accept you but they do accept people with bad credit however you will pay a lot more than the item is really worth and they usually ask you to provide phone numbers of up to 5 people who know you that they can call before they give you anything.

she also said they don't report to the credit ref agencies so will not improve your credit rating as you make payments and all's that will happen if you do not pay is they will call you to see if they can help get your payments back on track and if this fails they will just come out and remove the items you got from them because they still own the items until the balance is fully paid .

hope that helps answer your questions :)

Wow some great replies I am getting.

Happy girl- thanks for the advice, thats kind of made my mind up then, if it wont help my score I wont do it cos to me brighthouse are as bas as wonga, its just a rip off. Plus I dont like the idea of handing out numerous family members phone numbers.

assj- thanks for the advice, I am looking into this option also- I dont think I can afford a failed application on my file though so I am trying to find the one I will get the best chance with. I am looking at all options at the moment, the quicker I can improve my score the better so I may need to try on numerous fronts

Vanquis is a good place to start - easiest to get. Make sure you only ever spend what you can afford to repay in full each month and always to just that - repay the full statement balance each month to avoid interest.

Vanquis have been known to increase good customers' APRs as high as 89.9% so you don't want to be left with any debt on the card - just buy a bottle of milk or such each month on it.

  • buying the odd dvd or cd or couple of cinema tickets on a vanquis card will be more beneficial than going through the hassle of a brighthouse agreement.

it may of changed but in the past our tv broke, cash was tight and we went to brighthouse. For a 750pound tv i am sure we would be paying back 1100. Plus lets just say the level of personal data they wanted was extremly excessive
