Using CCleaner

I frequently find that it takes 30 mins plus for a first run on a PC which is full of 'gunk'. Just let it get on with it, and do something else in the meantime.
It's always my first utility of choice when someone complains that their computer is 'slow'.
As above, temp IE files often seem to be a major component. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I think you are better to restore your system once every 2 years than to use ccleaner . . .
It broke my system once and never again!!!!I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!

It might be worth noting which point CCleaner spends a lot of time at. Likely causes are internet browser cache files.
If it is cache files, then it's worth reducing the cache size to something like 128MB. This should be more than ample for everyday internet use.
If you want to try something different, try BleachBit.0 -
Thanks for all your replies, this is what I've now tried to get this thing to work properly :-
I've uninstalled and reinstalled CCleaner.
I completed chkdsk c by following the instructions on Youtube.
I've deleted the Temporary Internet Files on my browser.
Now 90 minutes after starting CCleaner it is working but the bar at the top is still registering 0%. Aerostar mentions it could take a long time but does anyone know when I should start to worry that it is taking too long.0 -
Just a question , I just tried ccleaner on my virtual machine and it was slow, the VM uses Kaspersky , so I turned off protection and the it flew through ....So do you use Kaspersky ?4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Only time I can remember hearing of CCleaner 'breaking' someone's machine is when they've used the 'Drive Wiper' tool set to 'Entire Drive' rather than 'Free Space Only'.
That'll spoil your day alright. Yes indeedy!
Giving me hiccups thinking about it!You can lose a loose goose.
You cannot loose a lose goose.
Get it? Now use it before you lose it.
or - Try using it - not losing it.

DO NOT mess with the registry if you can help it - even with CCLEANER . . . .
You are asking for trouble. . . .I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!

I had some time today so I just pressed 'run' and left it, I lost track of how long it took because if I had kept checking I would have lost my nerve and stopped it. It did eventually succeed so thanks for all the advice.0
