I am looking for a good quality digital camera. Do some phones have the same quality as separate digital cameras. What are some examples of each?
Also what if I wanted a good quality video camera as well?
Thanks

That's really too vague a post for anyone to be able to answer, there's a vast array of cameras, phones and video devices all with different capabilities so it depends on your requirements really.
Some phones can offer decent image quality similar to standard digital cameras however with their much smaller sensors they're nowhere close to a good digital compact camera. They also lack features, most phones lack a physical zoom and lack image stabilisation so they're not as convenient to use. Samsung have recently announced the S4 Zoom but that's more a phone taped onto the back of a camera while Nokia have been pushing hard on their cameras offering image stabilisation on the Lumia 920 and their just announced 1020 offers 41MP and IS which should set the benchmark for mobile phone cameras.
In terms of an actual camera recommendation, you'd need to give us some idea on what budget you have in mind, size/weight etc. as there's no one size fits all with cameras, you need to chose what is most important and what you're prepared to compromise on.

I am sure you do, i am also sure you probably have not bothered to check yourself what is available have you.

idk, maybe I am misusing the forum, but my question is one I would happily answer if someone asked it to me in an area I had some knowledge or expertise in.0

Anyway, this thread (forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?p=62423325&utm_source=MSE_FS&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=09-Jul-13) helped me clarify what I want which is a compact camera so now i will indeed take the awesome advice to go google.

So for decent quality photos and short <2min video for a business website I want a compact cameras that does HD video?
something like:
CANON IXUS 510 HS Advanced Compact Digital Camera
10.1 megapixels
Sensor type: CMOS
Optical zoom: 12x
HD video: Full HD 1080p
for £130
?
I just want to pay enough to get acceptable video quality, not sure how to quantify that more. Full HD 1080, sounds fine if this will look like 1080 HD youtube videos, but £130 seems a bit cheap to get that kind of quality ?0 -

The more detail you provide, the more advice people can give - if you went into a car forum and asked for a recommendation for a car with four wheels, you'd get similarly vague responses back.
As I said in my post above, you need to post your requirements and how you plan to use the camera so that people can give you recommendations that may suit your needs.
The Canon you've mentioned is a reasonable buy for the price, it has a stabilised lens with a decent zoom range. Low light image quality is not going to be anything special and the lens doesn't go that wide although nothing in that price range is likely to be significantly better in low light.
Full HD is nothing more than a resolution so it doesn't really guarantee any quality because the video could be two million pixels of garbage. Review samples will give an idea of quality which I would expect to be pretty good in decent lighting but may suffer in poor lighting and fine detail may not be preserved.

John no worries, your answers are helpful.
thanks
So i try to clarify more:
It will be for my business website.
I will be taking photos of me and my students doing tai chi. indoors and outdoors.
I dont know how else to talk about the quaility i want other than in my previous posts.
Budget - not sure, what do i have to pay to get acceptable quality. maybe £100 £200. Depends how much better things get if i spend more.0
