Please note that to be awarded the grant you need to be claiming above the family element which is £545 a year. There is also a baby element which is also £545 a year. You need to be claiming in excess of these two to be eligible for the grant. I'm an accountant working for DWP, essentially if you income is below the following you are eligible:

    1 child £19,481.49

    2 children £24,467.97

    3 children £29,454.46

    Hope this helps.

In addition to robindunne's comment, I'd just like to add that my wife and I earned over £30'000 between us last year and got a sure start grant for baby 3. We weren't expecting to have it accepted but we received the £500 today!

I'm waiting till after no.3 is born and claiming then - more likely to get it.

£500 would be an added bonus - I remember when I had my first, it was only £100.

Oh this information is great thank you !!

We have number 3 on the way and this will really help out with all the little bits we need.

So I can claim this from 29 weeks which is 11 weeks before baby's due date.

    Thank you
