Sure Start Maternity Grant £500 For 10mins Of Your Time

I was not even aware of this till I was told from a friend.
A Sure Start Maternity Grant is a one-off payment to help with the cost of having a new baby.

You must claim from 11 weeks before the week your baby is due, until 3 months after the baby is born.

You can get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if you or your partner are getting:

Income Support
Income based Jobseeker's Allowance
Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit which includes an amount higher that the family element or
Working Tax Credit where a disability or severe disability element is included in the award.
How do I claim?
You can claim a Sure Start Maternity Grant on form SF100 Sure Start, which you can get from your local Jobcentre Plus office.

Details are also available at the DWP - Maternity Section on their website.

Hear is the link to get you a copy of the form.

http://www.dwp.gov.uk/advisers/claimforms/sf100_print.pdf

Simply print form (about 15 pages) ...but did not take any time to fill in  (about 10 mins) the last section of the form you will need your midwife/health vistitor to fill in, which they should do for you without any probs.

hope this is a help to someone.....:T

How fab is that?! Does anyone know about the "Child Tax Credit (which includes an amount higher that the family element)" as that would appear to be the only one that might apply *after* babe is born? Does everyone get that? All very confusing this Tax Credit malarky!

    Hi september baby,

myself and my partner are not currently in receipt of any benefits, are both in full time work at the moment and are having our first child at the end of august. I have printed off the forms for the maternity grant and am planning on applying for it after the baby has been born providing our tax credits have been sorted out within the 3 month time limit you have after the baby is born to apply for this grant. I am not yet sure if we will receive a higher element of child tax credit but i thought it is worth a go to send the form off as the money will be a big help after the first 6 weeks of maternity leave when my wages drop down to the smp rate.

yeah i had to apply for mine after baby was born and once i was on smp £100 a week, i had to get tax credits to reasses considering the £100 a week income then i was on the higher element tax credits, cant really remember the amount think it had to be over £2500 a year, something like that.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to add a few things I got this for my new baby a few weeks ago.

Although we already have 1 son ds1 he is 4 we werent in receipt of tax credits as we didnt claim due to past overpayments recovery etc
We reapplied for credits after ds2 was born I was led to believe that for tax credits the family element is around £20 (therabouts) a week (please feel free to correct me if I am wrong) and anything in excess of this will qualify you to receive the grant.

As far as tax credits applications go you need to make the claim for the grant within the 12 week period regardless of whether your tax credits are sorted out or not if they arent sorted out they will initially refuse your claim and after you get the letter to say it is refused you have to write back to them and tell them you are awaiting your tax credits award and could they hold your application on file until the tax credits are through once the credits do come through then you ask them to look at the claim again and providing you are receiving in excess of family element it will be paid out.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU APPLY BEFORE THE 12 WEEK CUT OFF POINT AS FAILURE TO DO SO WILL MEAN YOU WONT GET IT WHETHER YOU ARE ENTITLED OR NOT THEY DONT NEED YOUR AWARD NOTICE AS IT IS ALL CHECKED BY COMPUTER .

hth somebody this is exactly how I got the grant

Thanks for this. Just looked it up and it says you get it if child tax credit £545 a year or more. Going to apply now, worth a try! :j
