Some guy drove into a woman's car, who in turn smashed into ours.

So, we were stationary, waiting to turn right into our street....literally seconds away from home.

Anyway, we hear this huge bang, and then we go flying forward.

The guy admitted fault, said he turned to talk to his son, and didn't notice the red car behind us had stopped.

Well, both our car and the red car behind us are write-offs, so he must have been going at some speed...

My question is this though, when I got out the car, I only had a little pain in my neck, nothing to worry about so I thought. Yesterday, it was bearable pain, but today it hurt to even lift my head off the pillow, or to turn my head.

What do I do? Is this something my SO has to declare to the insurance company? I don't quite understand how this injury thing works; is it juts for people who are in immense agony, or have lifelong injury?

You must report this. An old friend of mine had a similar incident years ago, she had to go for physio for months and paid for it herself. It cost her many hundreds of pounds.

If you end up needing treatment, better to get it noted now.

Whose insurance details have you got? If you're genuinely injured you should at least query claiming for injuries but i'd strongly recommend getting medical advise as well as whiplash can be a pretty painful experience and can be made worse.

Normally you would claim off the insurance of the car you were in, they will claim it from the car that hit the back of the car you were in and then they will claim it off the liable third party who caused the accident.

  • Are you telling us that you haven't told your insurance company yet?

As one of the questions they will ask is about personal injury. You need to get to a doctors pronto and get it diagnosed and then it will be added to the claim.

I don't think the OP was the driver.

That last part isn't really relevant at the moment, since you don't know for certain yet whether you will suffer long term consequences - hope you don't! So, report it to the insurer, and get medical attention.

I meant 'you' as in the form for several people 'you'...'you people in that car - have you told your insurance company yet?'...

I was hit whilst stationary. The whiplash lasted ages. Please tell your Insurance company and get medical help/advice. Apparently you also have to inform the Police if you have been injured in a car accident, at least that is what I was told.
  • The pain is so bad you come online and ask advice on how to claim compo?

Where did I ask for compo at any point in my post?

Surely that's what you meant when you said the following in your first post?

Not that there is anything wrong with claiming for compensation for a genuine injury.
