Buying from T-Mobile stores - discretion on handset price?

Hi guys

Does anyone know if T-Mobile staff have the flexibility to discount handset prices?

I'm wanting a Flext35 with web n walk on a 12 month contract. Handset I'm wanting is MDA Vario II.

T-Mobile store where I live is quoting me £69.99 for the handset. Mobileshop.com are offering the same deal with the handset free.

I'd rather go with the network directly - anyone know if they're likely to match the deal ?

Cheers

Not sure - but if you go through Quidco you can get £25 cashback from Mobileshop as well.

    Go to https://www.dialaphone.co.uk/youatwork

Get a good cashback deal THAT WORKS and get an automatic £45 via the YOU AT WORK site.

The networkk shops offer very poor deals. They pay heaps of commission to the online retailers such as DAP. DAP in turn convert most of this to cashback, so, keep on top of it an you benefit, they benefit. T Mobile just benefit from calls made outside your allowance.

thanks for the input guys - had a look at dialaphone but I can't find the Vario II on there - guessing it's because it's T-Mobile branded.

    Hi Mate,

I work for T-Mobile and can help.

The MDA Vario II is T-Mobiles name for the device. A Company called HTC make the devices and you can get them on other networks but with different names.

Its a case of patting each others back I'm afraid. We are not cowboys but do like a little haggle. Try offering to take other services or products to see how you can get on. Bear in mind this handset costs approx £400 to the company - its a case of not getting a BMW for the price of a Fiesta.

Any Q's gimme a shout - or come see me, I'll sort you out! :j

Cheers unluckymike - I've seen the handset at £29.99 on buymobilephones.net but I'd much rather buy direct from TM.
Phoned up TM sales today they said they wouldn't match it.
Haven't gone back to my local TMobile store yet, will try them at the weekend but thought I'd get an idea of policy first.
Probably swaying more towards the Flext 35 12 month with Web n walk pro.

    thanks

I went into the store today and my request was met with a rather blunt 'no' - not a problem, I'll go with mobiles.co.uk for £19.99. Ridiculous situation.
  • Hmm they should be able to give you the phone for free - did you tell them that you were willing to take insurance on it? You can cancel this within the first 14 days and not have to pay, but selling insurance with a phone makes the store look good (oh yay we've met our target of x% phones sold with insurance) so they would've been willing to negotiate more.

When I went to get my first contract (Vario II + WnW) from tmobby they wanted around the same amount from me, but because I work in the phone industry and know the manager he let me have the phone for free :D When I got my second contract a different store wanted £60 for the phone, but I said that I'll go to the other store another time it's just I happen to be here today so thought I'd get another contract. They then tried to offer me a £60 bluetooth headset for £20 instead of £60 for the phone, but again I said no I'll go see the manager at this other store, so their manager came out, hmmmmd for a while and said ok deal :p

It seems stupid to me, surely T-Mob would get more for themselves by offering to price match as the 3rd party company will still be creaming something off the top, however good the deal is
