Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - over budget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

    Hi ETO :)

I'm back again this week, and pledging a big fat £0 again. Unfortunately this week it's out of necessity more than anything else!
All I buy is my weekly food shop at the moment, but seeing it as a challenge makes it more bearable and almost seem fun...how sad is that :o

Thanks for the new thread ETO :D

I got a £6 odd Asda price guarantee voucher yesterday so I will be using that today, shopping will be pennies so a good start to the week.

  • Hey,

It's been ages since I was on this thread... but I desperately need to reign my spending in a little. I've been off work sick for 3 weeks, and it's amazed me how much more money I've spent not being at work every day.

Could I join in again this week please ETO? I pledge £50 but am hoping for much less. I'm taking the kids away for a few days to a caravan once school is out and if I'm not careful I won't have any spending money.

This will keep me on the straight and narrow...

  • Thanks, ETO - unfortunately I have already spent £7.85 on a prescription and 3.34 on a new nasal inhaler. Brill. Already on £11.19
  • Hi everyone! Thanks for the thread ETO :)

Well I am going to say last week was red (the receipts are staring at me and I am not impressed with myself! The curry, and pub lunch this weekend was very worth it though!)

The plan for this week is:
    Sunday: £5 on stationery
Monday: Nsd -working in city office and taking pack up lunch.
Tuesday: £8 down the pub (2 glasses of wine and a soda and lime - I'm a bit predictable)
    Wednesday: Nsd
    Thursday: Nsd
Friday: £10 max, Not sure if doing take out or I'm cooking
    Saturday: £35 theme park entry

Going to round up to £60 for the coming week please :)

    So far,

Sunday: £4.30 stationery, £2.95 on an ice cream

    £7.25/£60

    Evening everyone

Welcome along to beanielou. Good luck with the challenge

Welcome back everyone else including Wannabee. Course you can come back. :D

    Well I haven't yet set a budget.

But I will now set £50. My maternity funds are diminishing, it isn't good. Especially as end of july's pay is my last full months maternity pay. but hubby is back at work this week, (save on groceries) and I have no real plans, am aiming on getting on top of the ironing, housework and more importantly sleep so should be a cheapish one.

Have a good week all. :D

Thanks for the new thread ETO - I was MIA last week as I was sunning myself in the Canaries - lovely to be back home to this fab weather!

I need to get back to normality now - it was nice spending money that I'd been saving on my euro card without thinking about it!

So, lunch with a friend this week and back to work on thursday unless I come into some money! Pledging £50 for the week although lunch may be my downfall.

    Have a good week!
