Want to buy my girlfriend a special gift for her birthday but never done this before?

You go ahead and stick with your idea, I'm sure she'll love it! It shows a bit more thought than just going out and picking the first pretty thing you find.

If you say she never wears anything flashy, then something dainty like what you chose will do the trick, classy and timeless.0 -
What a lovely gift idea
Doing a quick search I just found this, it is 18k gold so should be a better quality than the 9k ones. It's only £50

Which would give you enough leftover from your budget to buy these matching earrings, either for her birthday or keep for xmas.

BEWARE - those items are gold plated and not solid gold.
That is why you have to be so careful with reading descriptions as the devil is in the detail.:hello:0 -

I really recommend Etsy, it's all handmade/vintage stuff that people sell in their own individual online shops within the website, and this one is particularly nice, it's modest, and even more individual as you could get her initial with it as you'll see. You can always message the person and ask if the stone is genuine although I should imagine it is.Save 12k in 2015 challenger NO.128 £0.00/£8000

The stone is set in brass and the chain is plated not solid... Another example of why it's really important to carefully read the description.:hello:0 -
It's a lovely thought, OP.
I wouldn't necessarily get too hung up on the birthstone idea - I'm not even sure what mine is, and I certainly don't care.
That pendant you linked to is lovely, but it's tiny - the picture showing it next to the ring does show how very small it is. The description's very limited, so you can't tell how big it is, but I'd guess it's only 2-3mm? And the chain's very, very thin.
I'd second the idea of having a look at some jewellers' shops, and consider second-hand, you'll get a lot more bang for your pound that way.
Edited to add - apparently mine is either aquamarine (which is OK) or bloodstone (which I don't much like)...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Omg i was just this minute going to leave to go and look at some jeweler shops!
I still might lol - ill let you know if theres anything - I doubt it though.
Thank you all for helping me with all this - its really nice of you - and you've said some lovely things

I've bought my partner quite a bit of jewellery and I honestly would never do it through Very or a store of its type.
Going to a good jewellers really is the best option. The reputable ones can provide actual guarantees of the quality of what you are buying and will usually be helpful in the future if a stone gets damaged or the jewellery needs cleaning. Many will provide much better after-sales service than a jack of all trades store.0 -
Well i've been out to the jewelers - and I have my heart set on this one now...

Its over budget but shes worth it so.
What do you think?
I am thinking of getting it tommorow.
