At 12p a time, I make sure I get as near to my 160 characters as possible!
Mainly I only text my sister, and then only about once a month, generally about visiting arrangements, so the message can be quite long-winded. I prefer using the full words, but abbreviate to fit the gist of it all in.
Whoever decided on the arbitrary 160 characters? Still it covers most essential texts I suppose, but only thx 2 txt spk
.
I have friends on 3p or free texts who will send me brief notes, but I'm afraid I'm too stingey to reply, and they have to settle for an email back!

Hate to say it Diva but believe me once your little ones get a mobile or use the pc to talk to their friends, you will find they use a completely different language.
I tried to put mine right but to no avail. You simply aren't there all the time to monitor texts and 'hotmail'.But all their friends use the same lingo and we are very 'sad' cos we don't!!.
I admit I have had sneeky looks in her inbox (shame on me) and with is shortened to wiv and that is dat ,sorry is soz, and no grammar. When i check my daughter's homework ,I always point out where the punctuation should be etc .She is thankfully a very good speller and knows that in school the correct spelling must be used.I haven't told her ,I think they just know when it's acceptable and when not.
But yes it used to drive me crazy but I don't think it can be stopped!!!!!
