No its not. However, It is prudent to temporarily move the phone when food is served and wine is poured.
What about the general etiquette debate of mobile phone use when dining? Many like it to have a certain ambiance. Someone with their phone on the table who could suddenly have an annoying ringing then start chatting loudly are still not welcomed by many people.0 -

Not everybody on the phone shouts. And your opinion about phones and etiquette is of no relevance. Plus op may have been texting or checking email and not phoning people.0 -

Surely then it would be daft to assume a waiter is 100% flawless!
They are people, not robots! Anyone going down the they should be perfect route is just going down the compensation culture route!0 -
