Site abysmally slow

Technical performance of the site at the moment is abysmal and virtually unusable.
Loading is grindingly slow, stalling on static.moneysavingexpert.com and images2.moneysavingexpert.com and other servers.
Plus when it does load, elements are missing or altered - eg the 'new thread button I used to create this thread was not a button, it was a link.
What has happened? Have the Brotherhood of Spammers been upset?
