How did I end up with two credit cards after signing one form

Hi everyone,
I signed up for a credit card not really wanting one but only because the girl was persistent and quite cute. I did not use the credit card for some time and when I actually found use for it, I had misplaced it!!! So I phoned the company up and said I'd misplaced it and to send me a replacement. I then received two credit cards soon after with two accounts. I'm guessing to help some sales agent with their target!! Is this legal practice???
Regards,
Basil.

Sounds like an error to me. No bank is going to reward its staff twice for the same product (in fact many banks, including where I work, don't incentivise sales at all anymore).
There could be any number of reasons, and I'd need more information to give you a better answer.
- The account is the same but 2 cards were ordered in error (they will have different card numbers, but the underlying account is the same).
- They somehow managed to open 2 credit card accounts for you (unlikely) by mistake. Note that this would cost the card provider and is of no benefit to them whatsoever.
- They're changing their card provider/acquiring company (e.g changing from Mastercard to VISA) and you got caught in the cross-over.
- Someone pressed a button twice/miss-clicked (happens FAR more often than I'd like my customers to know).
Basically you have nothing to worry about. Just give them a call and ask which one you should be using. Be a good idea to start using it too, just put a small amount on every month and pay it in full, wont cost you anything and helps build a credit record.
Alternatively, hope they have given you 2 accounts, max out the limits on both cards with a trip to Vegas and hope your gambling winnings can pay it off!
Kind regards,

Are they the same brand of cards?
I have one account with two cards - a Visa card and an American Express card. Amex gives better rewards but there are so many places don't take it that my bank gives the Visa one as well.0 -
I suspect the next question Basil will ask (if he comes back at all) will be since I didn't ask for 2 cards is the debt I have racked up on it legally enforceable?
Just for him - yes it will be.0 -

Is it the Virgin one? I want one of those accounts to get the airmiles. Hopefully once EQ sort out the incorrect data on my file then I'll get accepted for it. Daren't try until then.0 -

Yes I have ended up with two accounts but only applied for one. It was a couple of years ago.

Choosing to use the card will be deemed as you accepting the terms attached to the account so yeah, you're legally bound.
Even if you weren't legally bound (which you were) the bank would still be entitled to leave a default on your credit file if you chose not to pay. But you're most likely an honest person who wouldn't do that.
If you'd rather have just one account, close the other. Simples:beer:
Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
