Countrywide letter re: checking tank...
longforgotten
Rec'd a letter saying our tank is due it's 10 yrs/20yrs check....
The tank is well over 20 yrs old, in fact I think it's not been changed since say early 1980's. Also the pipe work from the tank to the safety on/off 'box' is copper pipe.
What should I expect ?
Any advice much appreciated.........best that I be prepared

Why would you receive a letter from Countrywide (Countrywide who?) - do you have dealings with them or is this just a circular?
I can't think of any reason why a tank should be inspected after 10, 20 or even 30 years unless it's leaking - sounds like a bit of a scam to me trying to scare someone into having something done that's not required.
I would ignore it if I were you or have a word with Trading Standards to see if they have any adviceNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
LPG tanks should indeed be inspected every 10 years. I believe the check should be free as you pay for it via the daily standing charge. I think a lot of folks have reported on here, however, that they've never had an inspection!
Assuming Countrywide are your supplier and the check is free then you have nothing to worry about - indeed it will give you piece of mind that there is no leak, issues with its structural integrity, etc.0 -
Countrywide are my suppliers of LPG, sorry if I misled anyone, so not a scam.
I am happy for the tank to be checked. Been with them about four years now I think.
This is the first letter I can remember ever having to inform us of the tank being checked so to be honest I'm impressed. Started off with British Gas, then Flogas and now with Countrywide.
Will wait and see what happens
Just wondered if anyone else had received the same letter and if the checks go well.0 -
Had the tank checked this week.
The tank has to be exchanged for a new one. Could be some issue with the pipe from the tank to the shut off lever outside the house.
As I understand we will receive a letter to let us know the full outcome of the check.
The changing of the tank will be a freebie, but the pipe.........
they provide the pipe and we have to arrange the digging me thinks ?

No letter received.
They have phoned to say tank will be replaced with a new one.
Fairplay not long between checking tank and getting new one.0
