Hi, just after a bit of advice please.
My 17 year old son has just started having driving lessons. His elder brother is getting a new car this month and is giving his old car to my daughter. She is going to give my 17 year old her car.
The car will still be taxed. He obviously won't be using it until probably later this year, when he (hopefully) passes his test.
We don't have a drive and so I am wondering what the position will be with the car? Can I SORN it and it can stay on the road, or is that not allowed anymore? Do I tax it again when the tax runs out? What do I do.
Thanks in advance.

It needs to be either tax'd and insured or sorn'd and off the road.
If its not insured then it cannot be taxed and must be sorn'd, and kept off the road.
You could insure it in your name only, if its cheaper, and keep it taxed or find somewhere off the road to keep it."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
Must be taxed and insured to stay on the road or council owned land.......“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thank you both.
So, if I can find a drive to keep it on, I just SORN it?
Thanks.

Yes, that would be the best thing. Leave it with the HB off, and start it up and let it run up to temperature once or twice a month.
What car is it and have you got some insurance quotes for your son, just so he knows what the insurance is going to be when he does come to insure it......actually may not be a bad idea to insure it now, say if its parked up for 6 months....thats 50% less time for him to have an accident and more chance to build up a no claims...."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -

That's right and make sure when it's eventually taxed again, you get the insurance sorted out at the same time, because the DVLA are enforcing "continuous insurance", which could mean a hefty fine.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

You cannot tax it until its insured."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
don't forget, the clue is in the name: Statutory Off Road Notification. If you can find someone willing to put in on their drive (or other private land) then you'll be ok.
Could be you can get a council lock up if you don't know anyone with loads of space that wants a car sat outside for a few months! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Someone needs to tell that to half of Bradford......“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If you are parking it up somewhere with no insurance then remove the wheels or battery. Just incase it's stolen as you may have to pay for recovery fees.0

Hi, it is a Peugeot 207. I have been getting quotes and at the moment they are coming back at about twelve THOUSAND a year!!! No chance of paying that, but we will look again once he has passed and see what happens (a miracle hopefully!!).
Thank you.0
