Juice Fasting?

I've noticed that a lot of juice fasters tend to store their juices in Mason jars. I wonder if they work to keep the juices longer. Otherwise they oxidise and taste disgusting if kept.0

Remember the person recommending this diet is out to make money by promoting yet another fad diet
I think the idea is -assuming you're overweight the body will use up the fat it has stored to find its own fat, carbs & protein.0 -
I have a green smoothie every morning, followed by a small portion of porridge mid morning for 'breakfast'. Since starting the smoothies, my skin has been clearer and radiant, my cellulite from behind my legs has disappeared and my poops are regular (sorry tmi). I've only added the smoothies to my diet instead of using them to replace meals as I already eat quite healthy, but I know people can use them to replace meals as they're very robust and lots can be added to make sure it's a well rounded meal.
care to share your recipe, for your green smoothie? :beer:0 -
It seems like a lot of people have been tempted to buy a juicer as I have tried to get Which top recommendation and it is OOS for my area in Currys, Argos etc (Philips HR1861)
I do have a small blender and often make a breakfast smoothie of banana with strawberries and raspberries, I also add a handful of oats. It is quite delicious!0 -
Try ordering online... Also maybe try juice master.com I think someone further up has mentioned price
I couldn't live without mine I love it

When I saw the prog. advertised, too impatient to wait, I found it online and viewed it with mixed thoughts, although I can fully see why the two guys took the extreme course of action.
I thought I would try an heavily adapted version in my own life, which means the following:
Incorporating one green smoothie into my calorie-controlled (max. 1300/day) eating habits - can replace breakfast, but due to no. of calories*, it can be simply an additional item at some point during the day
Using an age old Philips blender as purchasing a Juicer is extravagant, adds another small appliance to the kitchen and, as discussed, removes the fibre from the ingredients.
My smoothie blend is:
- fill blender with washed spinach and/or kale
- add 150ml water and blend first (kale needs this more than spinach) - could also use coconut water or almond milk (but these are no included in my calculations below).
- then add (cut into peices, core removed but peel left on apart from banana - of course) - one pear, one apple, one banana
- add some, blend a little, add more, blend again - I do this to avoid blowing up the blender
- about 6 sprigs of curly parsely (plant on window ledge), more leaves than stalks
- two sticks of celery, roughly chopped
- juice of half a lemon
- desertspoon of milled flaxseed
- 1 21g scoop of protein powder for amino acids (or a crushed amino acid tablet)
This will make about 1 litre so 2 x 500ml servings. It is still OK the following day if refrigerated.
*The calorie content is 100 (approx) per serving and the cost is about 78p per smoothie (not including the flaxseed and protein powder).
Between Saturday and Tuesday I lost 3lbs. I also found that the smoothies are filling without that awful full feeling I hate and meaning that I can keep on moving and have no interest in eating again for hours and hours - and I am very active at the moment, so it obviously provides a great source of energy despite the low calories.
All good, I say.0 -
Big problem with this is there is a tendency to put the weight lost back on quite quickly.
I tried a similar thing a year or two ago & although I did lose weight, I also put it back on again.0 -

Agreed.
The sudden 3lbs was a long time coming (going, haha) though, so far - pre-the addition of smoothies (which of course may simply be coincidental) - I was lucky, despite calorie-control (with an eye on nutritional values), to lose 1lb over two weeks, if that.....
*sigh*
Part of what I am doing is an "experiment" as I know for sure that I have ****up my metabolism and possibly the action of thyroid gland and possibly pituitary but with TSH (and T4) readings as "normal", will get no help from GP, so I am trying to prove a point, weird as that may sound.
I have a low temperature which is a sign of the thyroid and pituitary problems I may have, all of which mean that I am pushing water uphill in my quest to lose weight. However, it came on indsidiously and over quite some time, so I will be OK with it coming off the same way.
I have also ramped up activity levels quite a lot and, despite serious body issues and mental challenges, am at the gym tomorrow for a weight-training plan to be drawn up with an aim for 3-4 x/week in addition to the stretches/Pilates I do at home and aerobic/CV activity I do out and about (again, when I can overcome the same body and mental difficulties that plague me).
Incidentally, I trained as an aerobics instructor many years ago, have been (ridiculously) a size 4 and used to be fit without trying. So the state in which I have found myself is a real challenge - so I'm all for anything to help in the way the smoothies seem to.0 -
Thanks for all the feedback so far.
I must admit, i'm now toying with the idea of purchasing a blender instead. It's a major purchase for me, since i've never owned a juicer or a blender, i don't know what i'm looking for, so as keen as i am to start with the juice fast, i'm not going to rush into my new purchase. A juicer / blender, is for life?
It does seem logical to buy a small capacity appliance, such as the cookworks, and make fresh juice as required? It all needs to be Mse.Fred - Where's your get up and go?
Barney - It just got up and went.
