I totally got it Nev, pity others couldn't wait to be negative!

Ratboy, I worked with Nissan from 1988-2003, quite normal for Almera's to produce quite a lot of water from the exhaust.
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!

The exhaust boxes should have drain holes. Decent ones will

Ive seen a litre of water come out of a decent sized exhaust box.

Same issue lots and lots of short journey's. How often do you do more than 20 miles i asked. Never was the reply.

2 and a bit miles to the supermarket once a week and the rest of the journeys are less than that.

I bet the cheapo budget exhaust he bought didnt last long.

Don't be so condescending! This is also possibly wrong given that you do not know if its re-condensation after burn or split gasket.

As said in previous post a long journey will determine this. I.e 30 miles, not 5.

Blimey, there are some witless people on here.

This thread made me laugh - my neighbour's wife takes the kids to school, picks them up for lunch, takes them back and picks them up at 3:30pm, every day. The school is half a mile away, no exaggeration. It's actually a nice walk through the park behind us.

My neighbour can't understand why he has to replace his exhaust at least yearly - even the trail of water out of his drive and up the road doesn't give him a clue and he couldn't understand it when I explained it all to him.

Like I said in another post on another thread.....

90% of the UK population are actually stupid. Oh some may seem intelligent by spitting out big words occasionally, but these are the one's that think they know it all and resort to ignorance when confronted by anything they don't.
They won't listen to anyone who they deem to be of a lower social class......

Erm...not sure this is right! Air has a certain moisture content which is the passed through the engine and expelled through the exhaust. Now if its a short run and the exhaust does heat up, it condenses up again and spits out as dropplets of water.

OP-check to see if this happens after a short journey or also after a long run. If its latter then you have a coolant leak (head gasket).

Wrong. The water / steam from an exhaust is nothing to do with moisture in the air.

When fuel is burnt, hydrogen from the hydrocarbons combines with oxygen from the air to make H2O, or water as you'll know it.

A gallon of fuel burnt creates around a gallon of water.

    To the OP:

Advise your Dad to do at least one 20 mile+ journey at least once per week (preferably at motorway speeds). This will help to clear the water out of the silencer, and prolong the life of the exhaust.
