i had a text today from vodafone, saying that if i do not pay by direct debit, they are going to charge me £3:53 a month,i always ring up and pay my bill via their automated service using my Electron card, never had any problems, can they do this????Seems unfair, and another way of making/saving money for them, not me.

What if you have an account with a bank that does not allow direct debits????Or,you do not have a bank account, this is grossly unfair that a big company imposes these charges willy nilly with no challenge, what if i decide that i will charge them for doing it!!!are these big companies like Vodafone not making enough money!!!..as soon as i can i will leave vodafone. This is disgusting.

I'm surprised you haven't been 'penalised' before now. Most communication companies charge extra for customers who don't pay by direct debit so it's something you will have to factor in when you leave Vodafone for another network.

It;s a long shot but have you tried phoning them up to see if they will waive the fee for the remainder of your contract, especially if you have a long history of paying your bills on time by other means?

This is unfortunately the only way around it.

I've got a deal with Orange that I won't be charged it, as long as the bill is paid on time (there's usually 1-2 months credit with them)

I rang Vodafone today, most unhelpful, matter of fact, set up a direct debit,or pay!!!Explained I do not have a bank account that is able to do D/D's,they said all other industries are doing it,so they are!!!Brilliant.looks like I will try to pay off my contract and leave.
