so not worth then specially when you can get a sat nav for another £50.
I know everyone has different need and this is just my opinion0 -
The purpose of this unit is to display locations of fixed and mobile speed cameras, It was found to be best at doing so. If you need sat nav buy a sat nav, If you don't want caught speeding buy this or obey the speed limit.jswaminathanuk wrote: »so not worth then specially when you can get a sat nav for another £50.

...yes I too was impressed with the size of display on this unit (lol)
a nice unit for technophobic van drivers who like to speed then? :rudolf:
Not wanting to preach or anything... but if your getting near a speed camera area the only thing this KIND of unit gives over a 'satnav' with <visual display> is that it pairs your direction of travel against the camera database.
Apart from being cash cows for Police Authorities these pesky blighters were put in these areas because they are CRASH COWS! so maybe a little too much warning/display....ain't such a bad thing??!
I sure ain't no Bert Reynolds but I sure can see how a few more bucks may be better spent.."Breaker!..rubbernecking.rubberduckie!!":D :cool: :A0 -

This unit has no screen or input facility (other than you can buy a lead and update the software over the net) - there are several modes/switches and it talks to you ! Its simple, no hassle, works quick . I think its worth the money.

my dads always wanted a speed camera detector, was thinking of getting this for fathers day,
thanks0 -
i expect to be corrected but AFAIK stand alone speed camera detectors as this one is are now illegal to use0
-
To clarify the Talex does not detect cameras. It has data on where the cameras are and uses GPS to determine where you are driving (and how fast you are going) and uses this to warn you. It is hence completely legal.0

Do you think Aldi would be selling something that was illegal????
These are legal because they dont "detect" cameras they just warn of thier positions. If the police point a Radar gun at you you are caught. If they banned these then they would have to ban TOMTOM and the like from offering the speedcam data base for thier devices as well because they do the same thing (Except talex does it better)0 -
I had one of these a year or so ago when they first came out. I sold it on afeter a few months as it was not that accurate and to be honest they have now been superseeded by sat navs which can do the same job and tell you where you are going!
Sat navs are also high on thiefs lists so having to remove it everytime you leave the car is a pain whereas this device is discreet enough to be left in place. Also doesnt give false warnings. Never had a problem with accuracy with my unit and used it all over the country. Maybe you had it positioned somewhere it had a problem getting a good lock..
I have had this device running side by side with my PDA with TOMTOM 6 and the "Official" TOMTOM speedcam database. The TOMTOM goes crazy with cams on different roads and approaching from the wrong side. And if you make it "Only warn on route" then you have to plan a route before it will even warn you there is a camera near you... A bit to much hassle if you ask me.
These are really for drivers who just want a small unobtrusive device that will keep them right.. And also comes with a "Blackspot" warning as well as programmable for user warnings as well.0 -
I have had one of these for a year now from when Aldi last had them and it's very good. It's highly recommended in the Auto Express tests.
I have just discovered that you can send your unit back to the maunufacturer to get an update for £10.00.0
