Good Morning :hello:
Well, here we are at the start of the week againBut I've definitely got the 'seize the day' feeling today - watch out world! .... :rotfl:
I'm going to aim for a NSD, but that is more that I won't be going where I can get some low cost potatoes more than anythingWe're gonna be starving by the morrow.... :rotfl: (Greying pulling own leg there

You and DP have achieved a huge amount this year and if you hadn't set the target you would have been way behind where you are now and still fed up. The end is in sight!!!!:A
Hopefuljoy - you have hit the nail right on the head - and isn't that so? Human nature being what it is, we would be wouldn't we? And I'd possibly (hopefully not) be on here, moaning about how other folks decisions had ruined our lives and it was all their fault........ But no, we're progressing, and yes, at least an end is in sightAnd it's actually about a much bigger picture, not the everyday things that rankle us
Thank you so much for your kind and supportive words. Mucho, mucho appreciated
Igamogam - what you doing around at midnight on a 'school' night??? Hope you've slept well. Ha, yes, the recipe included cocoa too, and I have tried chocolate. Unfortunately a little too much choc always diverts to the cook, for quality and safety purposes - you understand.....natchSo the chilli ends up being not too good for my waistline :rotfl: Thanks for dropping in - lovely to *see* you
Right, best shift a tail-feather. The clouds this morning have a red tinge to them - hope that is just the sun rising and not a reflection on the weather to come......
Thanks everso for popping in, reading commenting and spurring me on. It is greatly appreciated
See y'all later.

Morning Greying. Loving the 'seize the day' feeling you have there. And you are so right about just grabbing the bull by the horns and getting on with sorting things that bother you out

Hello Greying and chums! For some reason I woke up absolutely xhausted today and have stumbled along feeling discombobulated..... nothing to put my finger on so I'm going to bed ridiculously early to start again tomorrow.
Have just seen the advert on tv with the little bear who finds his smile on holiday, really cute and it's cheered me up no end. I'm just tired so take no notice! Good night all and see you tomorrow! With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

Always think some dark chocolate works well in a meaty stew...or a beany one for that matter. Luscious addition.
Had more of my lentil lasagne this eve..just a portion as was using up left overs, but yummy all the same. Definitely eating less meat :jMFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

Hey GP
I used red lentils in my bolognese todaywas lovely and about doubled the recipe. Better yet (and a serious serious breakthrough :j:j) Jellytot LOVED it!!! "Mmmmm, I nuv it! Denicious!" kept on this little voice all the way through. Followed by "More peas!" Peas = please, not actual peas.. Lol.
I may have accidentally picked up linguine off the shelf instead of spaghetti, which only became apparent when it flattened out on cooking... Hmm. It was nice! Lots of leftovers too!
I just found this, and thought of you. Not sure if you are a fan of various 'nut butters'. I didn't even know there was a non-peanut version til recently, but this company produced a little recipe booklet using them. Don't know if the linky only works for me but I am hoping it may come in useful.
Lilt xx

That recipe booklet looks good - I've used meridian products in the past, so I'll definitely give it greater scrutiny - ta for sharing
Ach what a day - mucho achieved, *ahem* here, there and everywhere
Grabbed a NSD :j But really going to have to head scratch for snap and vittals tomorrow now,:rotfl:
Despite me wanting to listen to the wonderful birdsong whilst I munched dinner this evening, DP insisted on watching that series that Guy Martin (TT Motorcyclist) did eons ago about 'how stuff worked', sort of a Fred Dibnah type prog. Anyhoo, he was helping to renovated the very last Brixham trawler (a wooden, sailed vessel). And, as these progs are apt to do, the director obviously thought it would be a jolly wheeze to have Guy fry up some fish, like they did in Victorian Britain to sell to the industrial revolution factory workers who were living on the poverty line. It struck me that not a lot had changed quite frankly! Apart from who can afford fish & chips these days?
Still, we're luckier in someways - apparently you started an apprenticeship on a fishing trawler at 11 years of age........
Talking of food - did I pick a corker of a recipe from Leanne's PDF to tryI actually made this yesterday, as I figured we might be short on time tonight, and I have to say that the dish standing overnight did it no harm what so ever - especially as I didn't actually cook it for the length of time specified in the recipe
The recipe I chose was on pg 78 of From Scratch and it was 'Gumbo Inspired veggie stew' - and it was lush
Pic here;
Whilst I have made a roux for a white or cheese sauce before, I have never made a Louisiana/New Orleans/Cajun style roux - and I made this one a lovely chocolate brown colour, just as Leanne suggests. And boy, is she right about it adding 'depth' to the dish - how can oil and flour do that? I used the oil (plus a bit extra) that I had fried my sausages in, and just added plain flour straight into the pan. I used veggie sausages (mrT Lincolnshire ones), but of course you can use any type of sausage; Andouille, chorizo, finest meaty, valoo, whateverSo go on make this dish
I served mine with a 75g (dry weight) serving of boiled rice, I would love to do cornbread but didn't have the time, but I certainly will as this is a keeper of a recipe. Oh, and I'm pretty sure that green bell pepper is the 'norm' for this dish, but I had one yellow romero pepper left so I used that instead
Sure is a keeper of a recipe - thrifty (only 2 sausages used), tasty, filling and interesting :T Well Done (again) Ms Leanne Brown:T
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for people who do what they say they are going to do
people who apologise when they have made a mistake and say thank you even when it isn't necessary
for the value, that the Good & Cheap/From Scratch challenge has brought to our meal times this month:D :T
Thank you all for popping in, reading and commenting. I so greatly appreciate it - bless you
See y'all later, as I'm off for a 'Bon Nuit' meself, little bit shattered

Hi GP..sorry to be a pain here...but this Leanne Brown stash of recipes seems very good...is it from a book or can we 'borrow' these online... And how did you find it?
Sorry to have to ask you to repeat for the slow one at the back!( and trawling through your fast moving diary to find out will take me weeks,:D so I thought I'd speak up!)

Love, never ever apologise for asking questionsThis month, click on any pink link on a post of mine that says Good and Cheap or From Scratch and it will take you to PDF versions of Leanne's recipe books. FS was her first book, and is all about cooking dishes..... erm, from scratch, and the G&C she wrote as part of her masters degree in nutrition to try to improve the diets of SNAP (formerly food stamps) recipients, whose diets were heavily carb based. Many of the recipes are lush - this challenge has been brilliant - and many of her recipes are 'keepers' in my book. They are heavily biased towards veg, but there are meaty recipes too
The only slight down-side is that the recipes are written for US residents (Leanne is actually Canadian) so the measurements are in cups - but I'm pretty sure you're cool with those :D
When you say, 'how did you find it?' do you mean, how did I come across it, or how do I rate them? I came across a ref to Good and Cheap on Mr Money Mustache's forum, and someone provided the link for From Scratch in a subsequent post - and frankly, I think they're bl00dy ace recipes

Aha..yes I meant how did you find out about the recipes. Well this MMM bloke is proving quite interesting. Despite being from across the pond, so not surprisingly not always entirely in synch with some of our UK issues, it's a lively blog and fun to read
I read a few posts last week after reading about his diary somewhere on here...can't remember where.
Thanks for the info...and very impressed by the provenance. Improving the nations diet one step at a time is a very worthy goal.MFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal
