  • Absolutely love the cartoon!!:T Am sitting in the sun studiously ignoring the long grass and watching the cats be cats!!:cool: I went to Mr L today for my first ever solitary explore. Wonders!!! A week's shop of fruit, veg and essentials to see us through for the whole week. 20.02!!! Without a whinging DD WITH ME it was great. Had a free tea from Wait$$$$ before i went. I have the card for the tea and did get a donut to eat with it. Won't be buying that again as it was dry and expensive. But sitting there is a lovely treat each Sunday. As we do buy bits from time to time in Jl sale I don't feel guilty at all.:p

    Anyway, I am now joining the ranks of Mr L fans. :jThanks for influencing me folks! It also means my funds will last until first payday and I can put aside 25 for DD birthday this Friday. She'll be fifteen and wants a second piercing in her left ear. I've said no!! Once she's taken her GCSEs she can have it but not until then. The shaved hair cut is enough individuality for me to deal with at the moment!:eek:

    Lovely to see you are all getting on with life this weekend. We have our second summer.:) Good luck with the allotment Shorter. It sound like a bargain..:rotfl:

  • Good Evening :hello:

    Today has been full on. But we accomplished far more than we set out to, so all in all - success all round :j

    A NSD was bagged again :j As we didn't leave the homestead :D

    DP commented that Ms Babs Streis& looks younger than me. I g00gled. Ms S was 72 last birthday....................................:( DP did try to expand on what he meant by his comment, but I had left the room at that point...................................

    Dinner this evening was from Leanne Brown's 'Good and Cheap' - it was the Savoury Summer cobbler on pg 110. I don't think that I have made a 'savoury' crumble before. I differed from Leanne's recipe for the filling, as I hadn't lots of courgettes, but I also put in some YS'd mushrooms, some kidney beans and a tin of chopped tomatoes - which were quite juicy and made it more 'tomatoey' than I intended. However, I made the crumble (cobbler) topping 'as per'. And just for info, 1/2 a cup of butter is approximately 113g - or a 'Stick' of butter in US baking parlance. Picture here;

    It was accompanied by some 'Orla' potatoes (gifted by the gardening parental the other week), some YS'd carrots and some of the mrM frozen broccoli.

    It was OK, not the best thing that I have ever eaten in my entire life, but a good dish. I wouldn't rush to make it again, but I possibly shall make it again, if I have a similar set of ingredients. I think that my choice of veg 'bottom' lent a late summer/early autumn feel to the dish.

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    for lists - and most especially for the thrill of being able to *tick* those items as *done* :D

    for the other member of *Team Greying* - thank you for your hard work today, sir :D

    that we achieved what we set out to achieve this weekend..... and I was right about taking a *day out* yesterday - it recharged the batteries and didn't put us behind schedule :T

    I'm shattered, time for Bedfordshire. I'll see y'all in the morning. Thank you for popping in :D

  • Nice dinner GP. I made a pasta bake tonight with the very meagre remains of my spag Bol from Saturday - serves me right for making it too delish.

    There's a recipe link on my thread. I didn't follow it as it's basically bologese sauce, pasta in a white cheesy sauce with an egg or two in it. Layer it and bake. It's Pastitsio. Or Greek style lasagne.

    hopeful joy I was touched to read your post from a day or two back. So pleased you are gaining strength from MSE. I just wanted to send some hugs and wish you all the best :)

    HopefulJoy, I do feel a tad shorter after an afternoon on the lottie lol - oh gawd I am so unfit and out of the swing of lottie work. Mr Shortie was a star down there with the petrol mower today. Okay the roots are still in the ground but it makes it feel so much better with a good chunk of the height flattened

    Glad you've had a good weekend Greying. I have visions of Mr Greying's voice trailing into the background while he tried to dig himself out of the hole, lol!

  • Good morning, and hail to the whole new week ahead, wonder how l will b*lls it up, good game.
    That cobbler looks lush, and I may make a 'scrubbing brush' version of it if this cold weather persists.
    Tea last night was 'bast' a fish l don't know, 25p ys for 2 fillets, one each with hm wedgies and hg green beans, got DGS vote, except the beans, he doesn't 'do' veg. (l usually hide it in the main or mash).
    Tonight, l think maybe a soup, with the scone cobbler as a side.
    My friend was talking of taking on an allotment, and l said l wouldn't mind having a corner of it, so l will see if she does, as a whole one would be too big and too hard for me.

    I'm sure he was looking at old photos of her.

    Sure he was when she was 27

    Wow you look around the same age as a 27 year old.

    :D

    Hope Monday has gone peacefully and not under the sogginess that ours has been subject too.

    Eerm autumnal sunshine and misty delights where are you. I don't expect this much rain to be this useful over one day.

  • Hi Dear GP, AKA Ms Streisand's younger cousin :D

    Boy, I bet mr Greying did a bit of grovelling after that remark!

    Lovely piccies of your tea. I did the shopping alone today as DH is covering for someone on holiday in the sun...again....:mad: but it meant that I actually spent less than usual. I got back in time to make some veggie soup for lunch too using a bendy carrot I found in the fridge. There's some left over for another day too ( soup not bendy carrots :) ) I pulled more of my HG parsnips yesterday (gave a couple to a neighbour ) ate some for tea, steamed extra to freeze for another time and they were tasty. Not many left in the tub now butwe will def grow more stuff next year. How I wish for some more growing space. We have been on the waiting list for half an allotment for 4 years now and still waiting, I'm sure one will be offered on my 80th birthday or something! Lucky Shortie, well done!

    Thanks for the quote, GP, how true it is.

    Must say, Hopefuljoy, that you are one amazing woman, ((HUGS))

  • Hi, what a lovely morning, GP, l heard on the grapevine that Ms Stries and wishes she looked as good as you, and could cook.
    DP must be squirming in his boots, and grovelling abjectly.
    Yesterdays soup was a bit/lot over spicy, the peppers were hotter than l thought, but the cobbler was nice and crunchy topped.
    Have a lovely day, all, off to put washing out. xxx
