  • Upsidedown Bear - ooh, I hope I've not made that sound more interesting than in fact it is. I think it was Jack Monroe that started the debate (actually, she was just doing her thing, other people started the debate), about canned versus fresh potatoes. Anyway, I read on either MSE, Jack's blog or maybe Frugal Queen, that someone said they used tinned pots for roasties. We're having pizza tonight, and normally we have HM wedges, but I've run out of 'fresh' potatoes, so I thought for 13p i'd give the tinned pots a go. So not really anymore exciting than that, I'm afraid. But I've only ever eaten tinned pots rewarmed out of the tin, so in their 'boiled' state IYSWIM. I'm happy to report back whether it works for me or not :D
    I've been using tinned pots for roasties for ages and really like them. Hope you like them too :)
  • That is a beautiful painting Fortune Smiles :D:D
  • Here's some Red Campion just for you Greying:

    Those beautiful flowers graciously accepted Fortune Smiles. And thank you for the 'free' Rainbow too........What a talent you are! :D:D

    Upsidedown Bear I'm glad you're endorsing roasting the pots. Sorry I've not come up with something more inventive :(

  • Piquant I hear no 'sermon'. I hear good, sound advice that I think I follow in RL.

    So I shall find a way (without resorting to bad credit) to get a washing machine and have that holiday. And whilst they are totally different entities, I shall enjoy them both, asthey will have been acquired mindfully. Although I'll be kind and draw the line at boring y'all with my holiday snaps......:rotfl:

    And OK, so you're sneaking off now, but you'll be back right? Piq?

    Thanks for your brilliant diary, a very enjoyable read.

    I just wondered if you had thought to look at freecycle for a washing machine? You never know....

    Good luck with it all,

    Good Evening :hello:

    Hi Lellybun - thank you so much for popping by and leaving such a thoughtful comment. Yes, I've a weather eye on our local freecycle. I'm no longer a member, but had been checking it. No joy, and someone else had listed a 'want' for one, so..... But you're absolutely right to mention it - Thank you :D

    Well, today started out positively and continued in that vein :D

    We had to have a 'substitution' for dinner, because, having thought I had all the time in the world this afternoon to make pizza dough and tasty buns, remembered that I had forgotten to undertake an essential errand. By lunchtime, in the greater Greying Towers area, the traffic - swelled by the holiday 'get away', plus folks coming into the area for a couple of events that are going on over the weekend - had reached gridlock proportions. So it was actually easier, but not quicker, to walk to my errand destination. Therefore, half an afternoon lost - silly Greying :)

    So we tried out 'Beet Bourginon' for the first time. The recipe is from these lovely folks. I got their cookbook out of the library a little while back - it's worth it for the photography alone :D, but there are quite a few good recipes in there, so I've a raft of them to try out - only some are on the website, there are plenty that are not.

    We had ours with basmati rice and it looked like this;

    0073_zps42b30c53.jpg

    I'm sorry for the bad quality photo, the light wasn't brilliant and the steam from the meal kept on fogging up the lens - amongst other problems :D

    I didn't have any arrowroot so omitted it. I didn't put as much wine in - I would of done if it was a dinner party dish or a special meal, but a splash was sufficient to taste. And I didn't have as many mushrooms as they did, but ramped up the mushroom flavour with some rehydrated wild mushrooms. I have to say, it was a lovely tasty dish and I have definitely added it to my repertoire.

    In good news, DP has spoken to the insurance co. and got £20 knocked off the renewal premium. OK, this is probably not as much as could of been saved by going the comparison sites route, but as explained, I'm under the impression that that would of involved credit searches being on your credit record, which we don't need at the moment. We would of opted to pay annually (and indeed have) so if anyone knows whether this would of meant NO credit search, would you be kind enough to let me know. It's always useful to know these things for future reference - ta :D As it is, I have altered back the 'key' fund figures to reflect paying out the £88 to pay the bill, but have put back £20 (got to retrieve it back off DP) to start us off again :D I have left the key fund total at £750 to reflect the fact we need to buy a washing machine somewhere along the line.

    I hope everyone else has enjoyed Fortune Smiles wonderful red campion painting as much as I have, it is wonderful - a true talent :D

    Today I am utterly grateful for;

    the sharing of talent - we are all good at something, some of us are blessed with being good at several or many things, but I love to see other people's talents and hope that they gain the appreciation that they deserve.

    free workouts - especially when you can feel smug that you've saved a gym fee, and not been cooped up in a hot car, stuck in a traffic jam. Damp patches in awkward places; not so nice........

    good photography - if it makes you want to eat the dish, walk on that beach, or have seen the red arrows that close then it's worth a gazillion words of description. I do however, wish that the standard of my photography on this thread was much better :D

    Thanks so much for popping by, reading and commenting. It is appreciated. If you're 'away' for the weekend, I hope that you are having a fantastic time. If you're here with us, then I hope we can have an equally fantabulous time.

    See y'all later.

    Greying.

    Beanie - you should see yourself as others see you. You are good at a load of things and the very fact that Fortune I highlighted in separate posts how supportive and encouraging you are, kinda points to the fact that your are great at it :D You also have a lot of knowledge, and if someone is struggling, I know you'll have a suggestion - you've made several on mine already. So THANK YOU.

    We think you're great, so there :p

    Fortune - thank you for your post :D

    Sometimes the most important skills and talents are not immediately obvious like a painting skill or a cookery skill for example. The ability to empathise, sympathise and bring kindness and warmth to a person's life is a skill without measure and to be able to do it in writing doubles it.
