What? Had 2 v long work days and so am just back on the site. Greying, your presence on these diaries is uplifting and has provided me with motivation to stick at things. The adversity I was referring to wasn't just money related but could range from general infirmity to severe disabilities to people who may not be in debt as such but are struggling to do what's needed to their homes due to lack of cash. I truly welcome your decision. As someone said, you have created a family of followers. Thank you.

    Good Morning :hello:

Wow! More visitors. Thank you. You have all given me so much to think about. There is so much good thought, reason, argument, discussion points in all that you say. It's like having a 'intimate' conversation with a football stadium full of folk! And yes, we're all different, but we've also mucho common ground. We also have a 'place' that we can come and discuss. I certainly don't meet as many 'like-minded, yet wholly unique' people in RL as I do on this or the MFW board :D

INOD - I agree, the adversity isn't necessarily about debt. In name checking you, I meant a compliment to you, as you were actually highlighting something that I had also noticed, and that had really begun to worry me as to where I 'fitted in' - given my changing circumstances in RL (the actual and the 'hoped for' :D) And the great thing :D is that YOU (:D) - again, inadvertently - caused me to discuss it out in the open, with the result I've come to a different decision to that which I would of made - had I had my computer - at the end of last month :D So, Dear INOD - when folks have had their fill of me wittering on (or 'blethering' for our north of the border readers :D), about YS'd potatoes, manky avocados or the 'budget murdering' effects of a 5 week month (next one is October, swiftly followed by December, folks!), I'm sure they will tell me and I shall pootle orf :D In the meantime however, THANK YOU :D

    Everyone else - THANK YOU

    Beanie - :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D Back atcha :D

Right, well I'm up and about - not quite raring to go, as shopping is on the agenda today :( - but we'll see how we fair :D

    Dinner last night was thanks to JO and his first cookbook the 'in the all-together chef' ;) It was a version of his 'Stracci' recipe. I say version, as I didn't use broad ribbon pasta, or 'rags' 'pieces' as I think that the literal translation is. I used to buy parpadelle pasta from mrm, but they seem to have stopped selling it. Therefore, I bought some 'casarecce' pasta from HB and used that instead. It was 55p for a 500g bag, and I think it was a nice compromise of 'different' without budget-breaking :D The nice thing about the sauce with this pasta is the inclusion of coriander seeds (lightly crushed) they give a light 'citrus' hit everytime you bite one, and elevate the dish beyond the traditional 'meditteranean vegetable pasta' :D My attempt is here;

If you would like to have a go yourself, helpfully, the recipe has been written up HERE I didn't use parmesan, I hadn't got any. But I did find some capers in HB for 69p a jar (vinegared), so threw a few of those on top. I was aiming for a Nigella-esque 'strew', but you can see they opted for regimented rows........ :rotfl:

Right, DP is up and about, my coffee has cooled to drinkable heat and I'd better shift a tail-feather.

Thank you for reading, commenting and joining in. It remains appreciated. Greatly. By me :D

    See y'all later.

Happy good morning, glad you are staying, 'business as usual?'
Have drunk the coffee, rinsed the mug, and looked out the window to see..... a blooming big rabbit on the grass...... big smile, watched waited and off he/she bounded, how lovely. If it is he who has been scoffing my courgettes, then I don't really mind, but l don't suppose it is.
Going window shopping with DD today, and even tho we don't need windows I reckon we will shop. (I don't mind treating her occasionally, and the start of the month l have tuppence ha'apenny and a photo of a boy scouts hat in the purse.)
Off to get ready for the off, back later xx

    Hiya, GP

You and starnac are quite right, what has happened to patience? It's so much nicer to open cards and gifts on the correct day :) Even my little 7 yr old GS gave me a kiss for his birthday gifts when I took them the day before his birthday and put them carefully in a pile with the others until the next day. It somehow makes them feel more appreciated.
My heart goes out to those with no food and continual harassment by debt folks, those kind of struggles are horrendous.

Aw, Pips, I do so agree :( We have sailed pretty close to the wind many times in the past but, thankfully, have never actually gone without food at any time, just had enough to scrape through. GP's instigating the wonderfully relevant discussion over the last couple of days has made me aware once more how lucky we are/have been in the past. I put a bit extra in the FB trolley today.....

Have a lovely day GP and chums x

PS last night's tea looks tempting......

Okay sorry. At the risk of being laughed at - what does "a photo of a Boy Scout hat" mean? :o

Yay :j :j I too am glad you are staying :D We've all been in dark places money-wise, some darker than others, and it's always uplifting to read about people managing well and learning stuff and coming out the other side :) You are an inspiration with your thrifty gorgeous food and gratefulness young lady and don't you forget it! :D

I did vanish for a while after I was out of dire straights and managing well, and I've come right back, not because I *needed* to, but because I *wanted* to, I love the discipline of posting every day and being surrounded by people being careful (whether they 'need' to or not) and not wasting money on things they don't need. Tis a lovely community here, and since it's virtual, you and I and Pippi and all those others who don't have the levels of debt we had before (or any) aren't taking up room that's needed by others. People will read what they want/need to read - and quite clearly plenty of them want to read your lovely diary!

So put that suitcase right back on top of the wardrobe and sit down with a cuppa :D

So glad you're staying with us.

Perhaps the boy scout hat (I'm thinking the old fashioned one a bit like a Mountie's hat) is a reminder to be prepared (or the nearest you could get to hoping to be prepared).

Or (please don't chuck me off the thread for lowering the tone) it might be a more refined way of saying you were so poor you didn't have a po (guzunder) to p in. It just reminded me of the old thing (used to know someone who was briefly a police cadet - may be something he once said) about policemen being required to hand over their helmet (old fashioned Dixon of Dock green pointy one again) if a pregnant lady was in need of it.

Okay I'll go sit on the naughty step.
