Bonne anniversaire Greying! Am having a restful afternoon going through cookbooks identifying keepers and have sent DD out to get sticky tabs to make life easier. Three cats grooming and lazing in the sun, a cup of tea and waiting for a call from a dear friend. Life has slowed down sufficiently to savour it today! :j
I have learned many things from your thread Greying. That making contact with groups of like minded folk online is a wondrous support, that an inspirational people come in many guises, that good nutritious food placed on the table is an act of love and that photocopying recipes from library books saves a fortune! I am blessed to know you and everyone on your thread. Thank you!! :AWith family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

Hopefuljoy - I was thinking of you this morning! I hope that your ears were burning!
I remembered that you had asked me for green/brown lentil recipes. I had actually made out a list for you, but not got round to getting the links, and then my 'pooter went caput!
As I am currently 'waiting in for someone' ........ I've been occupying myself looking up the links - hope they help, and if not your good self, then I hope perhaps anyone else can make use of them
Morrocan Lentil Salad
Mujaddarah
Mudardara (you can use green or brown lentils for this)
Syrian Lentils (scroll down to recipe #2 I think)
Greek Lentil Salad
Green Lentil Soup
And finally, in looking for a recipe that I couldn't find, I came across an article in the Gar-d-jun with the 10 best lentil recipes - I'm thinking of giving the lentil risotto a go.......
Hope that helps

Congratulations on the anniversary, Greying, and thanks for the chance to read and be inspired. I bought polenta today, I complained that it was not stocked in my local mr m's so yesterday when l was there, it was, too, so, off to play with it. Scrapple, was it called, that sort of loaf you made?
Yesterdays rain drove me indoors and found me a duster, so l am ready for visitors! No, they only come when the place looks like a padding can.0 -
Good Morning :hello:
Well my visitor did turn up - when he said he would :j - so now all we have to do is cross our fingers that a) we can afford him and b) that he is as good as we were told he was. He's hinted he can work in our time frame, soooooo...................
Goodness, well I have been working hard - in between finding online recipes- but DP has been an absolute :A To be fair, some of the work is a 1 person job, and I would be just getting in the way whilst getting covered in dust, but he is cracking on with *righting wrongs* all over the room.................. perhaps he needs to start wearing his underpants over the top of his boiler suit....... :rotfl: we have put up with a wonky cupboard door for more years than I care to admit to, DP has made it so that it now closes and is straight - he's a star!
Ellidee - thank you for your support, you are another MSE'r who is consistent in thanking posters on this thread - and you join in tooGreat to have you here
supersaver - I'm glad that you have found summat here that you likeYou have transformed your life though just lately eh? You've taken a brave step, and I really do wish you well with the new job, and feel certain that it'll work out really well for you and your family

INOD - lovely to see you - BH weekend for you?
Tilly - You're such an inspiration, thank you for visiting this diary
Hopefuljoy - I LOVE your listAnd you're right, we've a brilliant mix of folk on this thread eh? I'm very, very blessed, and don't for one moment take it for granted
mrsinvisible - what time are you about???? Oh, I'm glad that you got the polenta - they got you the grain/powder right? Not the pre-cooked stuff? It's just that the non-gardening parental wanted polenta for a polenta cake, and they shop at mrm, and that was all that they stocked. Luckily, they held off, and consulted the *oracle* and got given enough of the free flowing stuff to make their lemon polenta cake. Of which I got given a piece and it was delishThe pre-cooked stuff (comes in a vac-pack block) is no good for recipes IYSWIM - you just fry that and eat it as is. Yes, Veggie scrapple is one of the dishes that I make with polenta/cornmeal - recipe HERE If you've a bag of it, I'll try and dig out other uses for you
I've not heard the phrase, 'like a padding can' before - what is the origin of that?
Dinner on Friday night was pizza and wedges. Not a roaring success, doing DIY whilst trying to make food/keep an eye on stuff in the oven doesn't really work. Hence everything got rather well cooked, especially the wedges, and my plate (pictured) had food that was served luke warm. DP's plate was stone cold by the time he ate (and I was fast asleep in bed :rotfl:) The pizza is an aubergine one, I cut up pieces of jarred mezze aubergine, there is also smoked paprika on top of the pizza and this has melted with the cheese and paprika oil soaked into the crust - Yum, even though I say so myselfPic;
Dinner last night was a first bash at Jack Monroe's Mushroom Chasseur recipe from her cookbook. Verdict was 'OK' it did what it said on the 'tin'. It was a good attempt at a 'posh' dish on a budget. It wasn't the best thing that I had ever eaten, but neither was it the worst. I wouldn't rush to make it again, however, if I had all the ingredients (and it's not a long list - bravo Jack :T) then I would certainly consider making it. . I used the 2 punnets of Chestnut mushrooms that I got YS'd, so that was 600g rather than the 400g of mushrooms the recipe call for. Picture here;
Jack's recipe can be found HERE
Right, I had best go and find DP, as it has just gone quiet upstairs....... perhaps he's finished and we get to start cleaning up..... again.......:rotfl::T
Thank you for popping by, reading and joining in. I continue to greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.

Hi GP..just popping in...CONGRATULATIONS on the diary anniversary
. You are an inspiration to us all.. :grouphug:
Meant to say that I was doing a use ups meal the other week and said I would do a Buddha Bowl. Family (especially OH:p) was very sceptical...but they all loved it and ate it all up. It wasn't entirely veggie, some chorizo made it's way in, as it was lurking in the back of the fridge, but it was great to do. So thank you again for the inspiration. We will be doing it again

Ooooh, just when I need them too, Greying, thanks for the 'heads up' ! :rotfl::rotfl:
OH is at work and I have NO IDEA what we will be eating tonight much less what I will be eating for lunch :cool: The food budget is gone. I had surprise visitors yesterday which, although lovely, meant I had to use up my planned food a day early. I have birthday gifts to buy and...and...and...
I have just found out that DD's employer will be closing down around Christmas time and her hubby works at the same company so both of them will be out of work next year. What a worry for them both. We will all need some Pippi sparkles
I like the look of your pizza, GP, is there any left? I don't mind it cold
Good luck with all the jobs (isn't DP a marvel, eh?)

A bank holiday weekend for me indeed Greying, how clever you are. Was graced with DS's presence for two days so no plans were made to help accommodate his pressures, catch up with friends, visit granny, commitments to father's family, etc. am currently truly inspired to have a monster clear out! Well done to mr g for the cupboard door.
