Hello Greying and friends. I had a good look through all my cookery books yesterday and spent many hours on the hinterweb tonight looking for lovely lentil recipes. Result - confusion!! Your offer to search out a recipe is gratefully received!:T

However, I have taken the plunge and decided to use the majority of my recent redundancy payment to pay off all my debts so that I can't spend it. :A
Fortunately DD and I will have a holiday this summer as that was already paid for and I'm marking exam papers, but it's going to be very tight until my first pay check at end Sept. Reading your lovely posts Greying has helped me to get motivated and do the right thing in spite of a period of depression which usually leads me to spend. Thank you!:T:T:T
With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

    Good Morning :hello:

Hopefuljoy - it seems like you've a plan - :T Well Done :D Good luck with having a wonderful summer with your DD, and don't forget the Old-Style boards on the MSE forum have many a thread to help with making your pennies stretch until they scream! The grocery challenge is always a helpful and jolly thread, and there are veggies, vegans and carnivores on there, all seeking to make their grocery pennies work for them and their families :D

Is there something that you're particularly confused with, with the lentils? Plus is there anything that you wouldn't eat/any flavours you actively dislike?

Friday already - were'd the week go???

I'm going to aim for a NSD today, after all, I need one! However, as much as anything, I'm not going to be going anywhere where I can buy things off my grocery list, so no spending! :D

Dinner tonight is a mystery, as the weather is currently lovely, and it is something like *stew* or *chilli* or somesuch on the planner :p I think I may need to go a little lighter....... :D

Right, best shift a tail-feather and get a move on.

    Have a great day.

Ta everso for popping in, reading and joining in. Mucho, mucho appreciated by me :D

    See y'all later.

  • Hi Little_sweetie - I tried out bulger wheat for the first time last week, it is very quick and easy to make up and very tasty when made with vegetable stock - my boys couldn't get enough of it and they can be fuss pots:)

Oooh, thank you for the tip, Sarah, I'll definitely try that. Can I ask what you served it with please?

  • Good morning, Greying,

Golly, this is an interesting thread. I miss a couple of days and there's so much good stuff to catch up on :T

I too have been thinking about my bread failure and I'm sure you are right about it being too dry. it did seem a bit harder to knead it :o

I've also been thinking about the 'value' of £20. This is something I can't quite make OH see...that it's all about using what money we have to best effect for us. We no longer have any earning power, well, OH doesn't retire until next year but is on a 14 hour contract with very little chance of overtime and I lost my job 4 years ago just as I gained my state pension. He bemoans his lack of income but thinks nothing of spending a tenner at the pub when he fetches a newspaper  Now I don't want a 'sack cloth and ashes' approach either but I think both of us need to agree on our spending habits. You and DP, Greying, have it well sussed, I reckon. What a great team!

Anyway, it's a lovely sunny day and I don't want to waste it so see ya later. Enjoy the sun :cool2:

Good morning all... no rain yet:)

Thanks Greying I have a lot of feta so should be good - just toying with which veg to add. Btw, couldn't resist and bought cute sized poppies s - they didn't work so well in microwave - not sure why though:/... They'll get a frying instead:)

little-sweetie I didn't actually serve with anything did mini portion to check did fence between boiled stock and tepid water - for me I prefer the savoury flavour with the stock - sure Greying will have some ideas:) - mmm know what you mean about beer money - OH heading towards retirement have already explained that beer money will be somewhat reducing I the future lol

Well done hopefuljoy for having willpower to pay off the debt, we are just starting a DMP and until a few weeks ago any lump sums of money would probably have gone on a holiday!.Hope you have a lovely holiday:)

Have a lovely day - whatever the weather:)

  • Morning Greying, the sweet potato and spinach frittata (Saving with JO) was good. I used about half the quantity of ingredients for 4 - his recipe was to serve 4-6 - the portions would have been HUGE if I'd made the full recipe.

Spinach was frozen and definitely went well with the large amount of nutmeg used. I was a bit concerned it would be too strong, but nope.

I'm the only cheese lover in the house, so didn't use feta but some cheddar and Parmesan, just to give the flavour. It wasn't really needed and I'd make without the next time.

By the at, I've made yoghurt a couple of times since you gave out the recipe :). First time was a little dodgy but next was pretty good. I've started to use it in dressings more and it really adds a good tangy flavour.

Thanks for the recipes and tips.

  • Good morning all... no rain yet:)

Sarah, I was woken at 6.45am by absolutely torrential rain with thunder & lightning  it lasted about an hour so I got up at silly o'clock.....

    Sarah

Thanks for the tip anyway, which I've just used to prepare some couscous for lunch. It does taste much nicer with veg stock in. It's chilling now and I've added lemon juice & balsamic too so I hope it will be ok. OH at work so some of that with salad & HM cheese scone should keep me going until tonight.

I'm glad it's not just me to kind of grudge a lot of money being spent on beer! I read my post again this morning and wondered if it sounded a bit self pitying which wasn't my intention at all :o It just seems so wasteful. He buys about 8 cans on a Monday too when we do our 'big shop' and they've usually gone by Thursday. I have one bottle of wine a week which he's happy to share when we have our evening meal

I take Greying's point about the 'value' of £20. In my view it's much better spent on food to share than beer.....

Have a lovely day everyone x

  • Re beer money. :rotfl: DH & I agreed on £20 each to spend as we want but it's interesting how we differ in opinions. For instance I thought that £6 for a watch battery should come from his £20. Now that may seem mean til I explain thar DH has a ' thing' :o about watches and currently has at least another 2 in working order and a few more all requiring batteries.....so therefore the battery was a 'want' item not a 'need' item.....
    Hmmmm.
His £20 seems to go towards liquid refreshments each week.....

I think we might need to re-adjust the figure as currently there is more money leaving the account than entering:(
