Good Morning :hello:
Gosh, another start to another week....
Aiming for a NSD today. Milk and bananas will have to eek out until tomorrow when I'll buy them and the TV guide. Forgot to add yesterday's NSD to the total :doh: Will rectify that now.
Dinner this evening.... a curry is the first cab off the rank for our week of deliciousness courtesy of Ms Monroe..... Tune in later folks, to find out how well I manage to mangle it .... :rotfl:
Right, best getta shift on, have dilly-dallied too much this morning - listening to blackbirds and the like
Thanks for popping by, reading and joining in. Mucho appreciated. By me. As ever
See y'all in a bit.

Good Evening :hello:
Well, that's Monday done and dusted. Seems to have lingered (in a totally good way) today. I achieved a NSD :j
I also forgot to mention this morning that I hoped to be able to drop off some more 'book thinnings' to the charity shop. Well, I got the chance, so I'm down to about 8 cookery books and 8 *other* books now. Whilst I've always been brought up in a home with books and encouraged to use the library, I do think that actually *owning* books is no longer necessary. As long as I've access to a library and the internet, I think learning can continue, I just don't feel the need to *own* that means of learningI also got rid of a couple of money bags of assorted foreign coinage at the same time
de-cluttering a go-go at Greying Towers
Dinner this evening turned out well. I had a bash at Jack's tinned peach and chickpea curry. I did worry that it may be too sweet, and as it was, didn't end up putting in all the juice, however, it was a good blend of sweet and savoury - the cumin and the chilli balancing out the fruit syrup. I didn't have any fresh coriander, Jack grows hers on the windowsill, but I live in a house with no windowsills! And can't afford the supermercado prices for prissy little pots of fresh herbsHowever, a picture of my effort is here;
You can see that I used mrM *saver* range. They were perfectly fine, and I would use them again. The plate in the photo is my portion - served with approx. 75g (dry weight) basmati. I made the curry as per the recipe in Jack's book and it gave two servings. Now, a) we're quite big eaters, as you know - although DP got the larger portion and b) we didn't have anything else with curry. I've got a link to the recipe that Jack wrote in the newspaper, where it's suggested it could serve 2 (with stated accompaniments) for dinner with a lunch serving left for 2....... I'm a little sceptical about that, but then we're more *manual* in our daily activities. Perhaps if we were more sedentary..... however, that is only my observation, not a criticism
If you'd like to have a bash at this curry, a version of the recipe can be found HERE and no, just because it is Monday's recipe, does not mean that our menu for the week is going to emulate the article!In the book, Jack also included garlic and a whole tin of chopped tomatoes. She also used a veg stock cube, but use chicken if you would prefer - it'll all be good
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for freed up space - must try not to fill it back up!
for enthusiasm - the volunteer at the charity shop was enthusiastic and jolly, I'm glad I donated. Hope it raises some dosh for 'em.
for the delight of books - all the books donated today have been read and re-read. They have provided endless hours of joy and education. For that I remain grateful.
Thank you so much for popping in, reading and commenting. I remain greatly appreciative.
See y'all later.

Morning Greying! Thats a nice easy way of doing sweet and savoury - I like it! I've made the decision not to buy fresh tatties any more - my arm and fingers have *really* been hurting because of all the peeling, and I think peeling veg is enough. Tinned tatties will do, I remember Jack talking about them.
I like what you wrote about books - thats very true, owning them isn't necessary - the only exceptions for me are reference type books, which I still need for work sometimes as well as gardening, or even the cat website, and a few that I've owned since my teens, just little paperbacks but very dear to me. Still, the number of bookcases I own has gone down by 75%and I hope to have just one by the end of this year
Hope your day is going well2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I've not tried tinned tatties, have horrible memories of them from childhood. I suppose they must have improved by now. When one of your recipes uses them I'll go out and get a tin and give them a go.

Am doing my own try out Jack's recipes at intervals, with mixed feelings about. Some are worth repeating, some not, and there is a good chance they won't make as many portions as stated. But, overall, worth trying out as they are relatively simple.
Personally, I wouldn't want to rely too much on keeping my Reference Information at libraries and/or online. Reason being that Internet access is currently available at all times and for free...but its not possible to vouch for what may happen in the future and, even with "normal service" when your own computer goes down (for whatever reason) then that's you stymied for accessing the recipe you were about to do. Just had that happen to me in the last few days.
Libraries...hmmm...but access to libraries is being cut and cut...with all of them (as far as I can see) having their opening hours cut and some of them even being shut altogether.:mad::eek:. Must admit to being totally shocked on a visit to a nearby small town recently to see how few hours their library, for instance, is now open:eek:_pale_, to the extent that I am still struggling to get my head around just how any local authority could think it was acceptable to have their library open for such short periods of time. Thankfully, my own library (as in the one in my new area) is open nearly all the hours that would be expected in the 21st century (ie quite a few hours less than normal..as judged by normal, ie 20th century, standards iyswim). Hence I know libraries are supposed to be open evenings and all day Saturday...but am just about managing with my new "local" one being open throughout the day Monday-Saturday (except Saturday afternoons). That is proving awkward enough...with knowing I should be able to go in of an evening or Saturday afternoon...and having to work round the fact that I cant...but its JUST about manageable at that level.
'Scuse the mini-rant here...but it's as well for people not to rely on "service as normal" with libraries...because we already don't have that...and it could get worse.0 -
no no ... not tinned tatties ! Disgusting excuse for the real thing. Buy the baby "new" potatos that just need boiled straight from the bag.Its just a bad day, Not a bad life .. :cool:0
