Good Morning :hello:
to say I used to work for them.
Beanie - no need for- on paper, they should be a truly wonderful company to work for, and with the massive commercial advantage they had from the beginning, they really should deliver a first class, cutting-edge service. Unfortunately they don't. Lovely to *see* you here - as always
So glad I claimed this corner of your kitchen as mine!
And we're very glad to have you here m'dear
Right, back to *normal*:rotfl: here at Greying Towers today. Need to be up and at 'em just now.
So, March was a little bit of a write off in terms of achieving NSD's. As I say, I think the end figure would have been 16/20 if I had kept the tally. NSD's definitely stop the *frittering* for me - say like buying something 'everyday' because it was YS'd. The only thing I find inflexible, is that you sometimes ruin a NSD when you spot the one thing/ingredient that you need that is on special/YS'd and you lose a NSD for 35p or something - then you spot another (legit) bargain the next day and lose another NSD for 50p. Therefore, I think that I am going to reduce the target of NSD's to 15 - certainly this month, but aim to get 15 NSD's easily and see if I can't grab a couple of extra. Be much more mindful of all my purchases and grouping of expenditure.
New recipes - I lost count, and can't go back and tally, but I know that I tried more than I targeted at the start of the month. I can't think of any outright *stinkers*, so by any stretch of the imagination, we've a raft of new *keeper* recipes here at GTIn April, I have 16 new to me recipes that I want to try :rotfl: Watch this space to see if my hair gets torn out :rotfl:
A celebration of Jack Monroe - the gal's a wonder, what can I say? To that end, next week, I'm cooking recipes exclusively from her new cook book. Therefore, here at Greying Towers, the 7th - 13th April is 'Back to Back Jack Week I'm looking forward to bringing 7 of her dishes into fruition for our dinner each evening, for the week
Food Bank donation. Actually, we have already donated £3.42 worth of UHT milk to our local food bank (6 litres). I took it on Monday, as having the car made it easy to buy and deliver, and I'm also mindful of avoiding client days to respect privacy. So the money is already spent and deducted from our grocery budget.
So, April, 15 NSD's, 16 new dishes, a food bank donation and a Back to Back Jack Week. I'd love it if you pop in to see how I do
Dinner tonight is a new dish (as actually was last night's dinner, but that was supposed to have been made in March) to my repertoire, and was *found* due to a suggestion from a reader on the thread
:D
Time's a marching, best shift a tail feather.
Thanks so much for popping in, reading and commenting. You know that I appreciate it. Very much.
See y'all later.

Hi Greying, just popping in to say that I hadn't realised how much more optimistic I am when I've read your morning updates until now that they are back. I think it's the shake a tail feather that conjures up the very positive image that I can only smile at. I'd no idea that BT were that bad! The service I get from Virgin is awful, but they're efficient on the DD side of things, i.e. not taking too much like that _pale_
Your avocado-ness looks wonderful :j and I just *adore* the idea of a back to Jack week :j I was going through the recipes on her blog the other day, for my very own "tax dark recipe book"she's got some wonderful ones, for sure.
Hope your day is going well, Greying.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hi welcome back hope Bt return your money today! look forward to seeing your meals#0

Hi GP, lovely to see you back so positive.
That B*#%! Telecom company are a nightmare. DD moved into her place last October and she cannot get a decent answer (or any answer come to that!) from them over a complaint she raised. Grrr!
On a good note I have just had a lovely, local man round to fit tv aerial so I can ditch Virgin and go Freeview, and he not only did a really good, tidy job but cleaned out my gutter which was full of moss. He said he might as well while he was up there - how nice was that?0 -
Good Evening :hello:
in need of direction - your lovely comment has just put the broadest of smiles on my face --->Thank you
:)
Karma - oh Bee T really are that bad. Even on the forum, that apparently is nothing to do with Bee T, but they respond to??????? is FULL of complaints. Mind you, at least I found out that they know that they are not updating online account details and that people's calling/broadband plans are not showing accurately - which means that the operative that I spoke to yesterday was, in fact, lying when they claimed that I was looking in the wrong place and that all the info was on the screen. I've 24hrs still to wait, but I'll not bet the family heirloom on it being any different then to what it is now
Ah, now this *tax dark* cookery, I need to come and *see* you over at *yours* to join in this discussion........
tunathecat - Hi to you too  Ta for popping by
dreaming - hope there is plenty on freeview to keep you out of mischiefAnd yes, I wholeheartedly agree that it was kind of the aerial chap to clear the guttering - how refreshing to meet the attitude, 'well, I was here, saw it needed doing, so I did it.'
Well, today has been swell, no complaints from me
I ended up spending! I'd forgotten that we actually needed milkBut the upshot was that I managed to get several items off my list that were YS'd so not all was lost :T I also picked up some aubergines from L*dl, whilst I was there, as they were lovely and glossy and plump, and well-priced at 69p. Can you tell me thought how they can retail at 69p - given that they are bound to be dutch, imported, grown in a greenhouse etc etc. Whilst a box of (swedish) turnips - potentially grown in the UK, grow in all weathers, don't need special conditions etc etc, were retailing for 89p each!
Dinner this evening was, as I mentioned, a new recipe - and yet again, we've a keeper :T:T Would moneyistooshorttomention pur-leeease step forward and take a bow:D You very kindly pointed me in the direction of the culinary cheapskate blog a couple of weeks ago, and having trawled through (unfortunately the blogger is inconsistent with posts
) I have found several recipes to try out. The first of which was Tanzanian Black-eye bean soup with coconut. Picture here;
And yes Dear Reader, it could have done with a little more liquid, you place cooked rice in the bottom of the bowl and this sucked up a lot of the 'broth' which had already reduced as the beans soaked up more whilst it was standing, waiting for DP to be ready to eatHowever, nothing can take away from the fact that this is exactly the type of food and flavours that we enjoy eating. Thumbs UP!
And again, I would have been blissfully unaware of the dish, if moneyistooshorttomention had not taken the trouble to post
I made my own spice blend (as per the recipe) for the dish, as I have all the spices in, it was a good flavour. Should you like to make this dish, which is pretty cheap to make, then have a look HERE
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
that I heard the very distinctive industrious sound of a woodpecker - just shows that banging your head against wood can equal progress in some circumstances..... :rotfl:
for the thoughtfulness of a fellow MSE traveller - for finding us another dish to add to the repertoire which is affordable to make, easy to put together and very tasty to eat
that DP bought me a bar of 'froot & nutt', just because........- And the rotter knows that I'll share........#winwin :rotfl:
Thank you so very much for popping in, reading, sharing recipes and joining in. I continue to appreciate it. Greatly
See y'all later.
