Thank you GP. Decided I had time to get the last sleeper in before it rained so went out and went at it like a navvy! Felt very happy, put tools away, felt few spots of rain so came in and "treated" myself to some crisps and a sit down in the living room. Looks out smugly at new edging then aaagh! it looks completely skew-whiff, although from the patio it looks ok.:( I know it doesn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things, and when it is planted won't be noticeable (probably) but wondering if my Virgoan perfectionist mind can live with it. I could just get any guests drunk then tell them it is really perfectly straight.:rotfl:
Hmm, goes off to look at laser level thingies!0 -
Hi GP, Just wanted to thank you for the Aubergine and Beetroot Pilau recipe. Tried it last night as I love beetroot, had some today for lunch at work it is delish, hot or cold.:D I can offer you some vinyl for the juke box, but as I still play them occasionally its only a loan;) I will take them back honest.It is the job that is never started that takes the longest to finish. Good Morning :hello:sonas_baby wrote: »I can offer you some vinyl for the juke box, but as I still play them occasionally its only a loan;)
Hey sonas_baby - you still have the means to play vinyl?? YAY - you win the prize, for being the first household on this thread to have vinyl and the means to play it :T:rotfl: Glad that the pilau turned out well, but don't thank meIt's blogs like my darling lemon thyme that keep me inspired
:D
dreaming - :rotfl::rotfl: to the need to get a cutting edge lazer guided levelling device. I feel your pain. We moved the shed the other week, for a 'sorta' temporary measure. Looked fine from every angle outside. Went inside, looked out the window - totally skew-wiff!! :rotfl: We're trying to ignore it and tell ourselves that it is a temporary measure, but......... :rotfl:
So, Sunday, and I'm up with the larks.... what's that all about?
Yesterday was a spendy day. But I notice that you'd all got to L*dl before me and hoovered up the mushy-rooms that were on offer (well, I exclude dreaming from that sweeping generalisation.....) Never, mind. I popped in as we were in the area, but 5.00pm clearly isn't the time to bag a bargain - and it did rather look like the locusts had been through :rotfl:
Today will be a NSD. I've nothing to get and we're down to buttons and washers in my purse now. Given that we've exceeded the budget, it's not good
Dinner last night was curry, dhal and rice. The curry was one of these ones that is best to make a day in advance to let the flavours really meld. And the dhal was super quick using the pressure cooker, so it is about as near as this household gets to a 'ready meal'. Darn sight tastier than your average 'ready' offering tooSo we had; Two potato vindaloo, sabot masoor dhal and rice. Picture here;
The vindaloo is a Yotam Ottolenghi recipe, the dhal was from a book called the '3 sisters indian cookbook' by the Kaul sisters. A similar recipe to theirs can be found HERE - if you stop with the ingredients pretty much after the garam masala (but you will need some oil for frying), you'd be close to the version I made.
I'd made the vindaloo before, and we like it - the vinegar is an acquired taste though, I suspect I didn't use 50ml this time (less) and I think it makes a nicer curry - piquant, but not raw IYSWIM. I hadn't made the dhal, but I'm glad that I did. As whilst brown lentils are merely red lentils 'with their jackets on' the taste was different, and made a nice change. The lentils do cook without soaking, but I did cheat and cooked them in the pressure cooker - in 5 mins they were doneThen I added them to the spice mix and they really broke down into a dhal texture.
Dinner this evening will remain a mystery - i'm aiming to cook the dish that I was going to on Friday, but at the moment, it looks like we've a busy day ahead, so i'm leaving my options open for a sandwich....... :rotfl:
Right, best go and get 'is lordship a cuppa.
Thanks for popping in, reading and commenting. Always appreciated.
See y'all later.

Ho. Hey! :hello:
How are y'all?
I'm calling in early, as I have just been informed that the moto gp racing is on later, approximately the time that I usually duck in to 'chat' with y'all, so......
Piq - lovely to *see* ya, as ever. Don't worry, it's not just this thread you're gaining a reputation on........... :rotfl:(pulling ya leg, lady:D) Dishing up about 7.30pm, see you at the table - hands washed and hair brushed
:D
Well, today we've done quite a bit, but as ever, we could have achieved more.....DP chose to do 'outdoor' work - unfortunately during the entire time that it decided to rain/hail/snow and everything else in between in these 'ere parts today
I got to do chores inside, including baking for snap, cooking lunch, tidying, putting clothes away - y'know, all the stuff that takes time, but looks like you've done nowt, but had your feet up watching tv, drinking tea and nibbling biccies
It did, however, mean that I have been able to maintain a NSD, so :j
DP had to go outside of his comfort zone and take on a task - I'm not going to elaborate on what it was, as it is something that other folk would think nothing of, and also, you have to live here to understand why comfort zones were forsakenI will have to get out of my comfort zone this week too, to ensure completion of the matter as a whole. I'm not looking forward to it at all
Still, once completed, it will be better for us, better for us, better for us........... I keep telling myself
Lunch was the last of the black olive and red pepper scones, along with jaymee's pasta and chickpea soup. Just the rib-sticker DP needed after getting cold and wet. I listened to the food programme as I cooked. Quite interesting, but I think the gentleman from Handsworth made the most interesting contribution in the entire programme......
Right, so I'd better away and make dinner. I'm going for the recipe that has been delayed since Friday. I'll try to get pics and post them tomorrow.
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
that DP mustered courage - apparently, it was because he knew I was 'behind' him. Wish I knew who was backing me, later in the week..............
that progress is being made, even if slowly at times, and even though doubt seems to be a constant companion.
for all that 'unlimited' brings you - when you're trying to cultivate your inner minimalist :rotfl:
thanks so much for popping in, reading and commenting. You know that I continue to appreciate it.
See y'all later.

Good Evening :hello:
Well, the chaps whizzed round the track very whizzily, and it would appear that the race is done. Super happy in this household, as our favourite rider came secondPity mr smith couldn't keep his bike upright - he was doing so well!
Anyhoo, that means I can fill you in on, 'whatiadfermetea' without further ado....... :rotfl:
I made, for the first time, Mascarpone* bean otto with mushrooms and spinach, from the book, 'The Green Kitchen' (the couple that wrote the book also have a gorgeous blog called; Green Kitchen Stories, filled with fantastic healthy food and super photos). *Now, before the 'trades description lot' have me, I used labneh (made from yoghurt) as I can't afford mascarpone, so I lay before you, a snap of me tea, which was, in fact, Labneh bean otto with mushrooms and spinach :rotfl:;
Very nice, even with substitutions. The original recipe used oyster mushrooms. I used YS'd chesnut mushrooms, HM labneh rather than mascarpone and the spinach was mrW essentials, chopped within an inch of its life, rather than organic leaf spinach, bought from a stall at the local farmers market, from its grower, Ralph
Hence why my spinach has, yet again, made the dish a rather interesting shade of green........
I also used haricot beans, because I had them. They were ok, but I suspect cannellini beans would have..... added a little more refinement to the dish? If you would like to see just how much I have mangled the original recipe, you can find a copy of it HERE
I will definitely keep the recipe, and hope to be able to make it again, as we liked it, and it uses ingredients that we like/have access to. Oh, and I should add that I grated some cheddar on top - I saw a pic of a version of the dish that someone had made, with a little parmesan(?) grated on top. So I thought I would do it with what I had - wished I hadn't bothered, as it wasn't necessary - ah well..........
Right, I'm outta here.
Ta for popping in and reading. Mucho, mucho appreciated.
See y'all later.

I'm not sure if the Australian website I linked to is playing ball and showing you the recipe for the Bean otto. If it isn't, then please use the following Marscapone Bean Otto with mushrooms and spinach
The translation from the greek of the original website has not tracked fully, so it should be 2 cloves of garlic and 60g Mascarpone cheese. In addition, the recipe I followed had the zest and juice of 1/2 lemon. Borlotti beans are wonderful, but cannellini, haricot or flageolet would work as well.

Good Morning :hello:
Start to another week
Aiming for a NSD today.
Dinner this evening will be...... interesting. I've just looked at the recipe I was going to do, and I've not got some of the pertinent ingredients. Given that it is glorified soup - this is not a good state of affairs we find ourselves in:rotfl:
Thinking cap out.
Right, I'm away to make snap and shift a tail feather.
Thank you for popping in, reading and commenting. As always, I appreciate it.
