  • Thanks for the welcome, GP, and for the inspiring recipes. I try to be frugal but don't even get close to your level! I keep trying, tho.
  • Good morning GP & friends,

Thanks for the link to the Guinness stew,GP. I've printed off a copy and will attempt to make it soon as OH was drooling at the thought of Guinness in an actual meal :rotfl:Yours looked scrumptious and just the thing for a cold day.

Well, yesterday I had a go at the breadmaking and it actually turned out better than I expected. The packet made a 1lb loaf (I didn't have a bigger tin) plus a plait which I remember making at school half a century ago. We ate half the loaf with our tea and I froze the plait for later in the week. Amazingly, I was so inspired that I carried on baking (well the oven was already hot and I decided to go the whole hog!) and made some fat rascals as well. I also made and froze some Jack's banana pancakes made with a very overripe banana and prepared some crumble mix to pop onto frozen fruit for pudding. See how you have inspired me Greying? :D That's what I meant about ' giving me permission' the fact that it doesn't matter if something fails. Recipes are there to be adapted as you do. Bless you for sharing....

dreaming, when we moved house we gave up Sky TV and bought a Freesat dish which cost us about £120. We obviously don't get as many progs but we have saved a fortune over the 4 years we have had it as there's no subscription to pay, and we don't really miss anything. We don't have an aerial or we would have used the inbuilt Freeview on the TV.

    See you all later

How kind of you to think of me regarding the curvy carrots:T Very nice recipe too, I have saved it for later as I have access to copious amounts of giunness for recipe purposes :D

In case anyone was wondering what I have to do with curvy carrots, see above for Greying's art house sexy carrot...all I did was ask what the curvy carrot was up to:whistle:

You have amazing cooking mojo, Greying :) it must take a lot of forethought, and energy, as well though; and loving that dalcha recipe (and the woman writing that blog) - cardamom is newly on my to-buy list :)

    Hope your day's going well.

Oh the chilli sounds lovely. Second day chilli, soup etc is always best :)

Ended up not making the burgers as I was also cooking for my "I'm not fussy you just like weird stuff" boyfriend so another time. Made some carrot and coriander soup which is now in the freezer for a rainy day!

Hope today has gone well. I am immensely impressed with your NSDs!!

Ay up dreaming - it's been gusty here today - not pleasant. We find that freeview gives us plenty to watch. The only sticking point will be when the motogp season starts. That is something DP likes to watch. It has moved over to BT sport rather than the BBC. Technically, we can watch it online, but it depends whether we will have to increase our download limit - which, quite frankly would be a pain. After all, we pay for our broadband, pay for our TV licence, why do we need to pay again for one thing.....

Thank you both. When I moved in here nearly 4 years ago I was still working so having a "Virgin package" was easily affordable. However, I have realised recently that I watch less and less on tv (strangely as I have more time now I have retired) and the other night scrolled through the list of channels I have, plus all the catch up programmes, and still couldn't find anything I thought worth watching. I do have an aerial on roof but the wire comes down the wrong side of the house and not sure if it is any good, and don't have a BT line. My contract is up in May so will get a man out in the next couple of weeks to look at it and move cable. Will probably/possibly keep the phone & broadband with Virgin - although I have had a leaflet through the door from TalkTalk today and their prices look tempting.
Wanders off to research TalkTalk forums (love this MSE site).

    Hello

Blimey your diary carries on apace...I am only 3 days behind but it equates to about 3 pages of posts :) :rotfl:

You are always welcome in Brizzle Greying...and yep, we take our food VERY seriously round these parts..I even try and buy a lot of mine in our very own local currency ;)

If you do ever pop over give me a shout beforehand and I can offer some recommendations :)

Have to say we haven't done yoghurt for a while but it is dead easy and any old thermos flask will do..and if you get the consistency right it is thick and yummy like Greek yoghurt..nom nom

  • dreaming, you sound as if you are in the same position we were 4 yrs ago. We struggled to find anything we liked to watch on Sky despite having so many channels so we thought flip it why struggle to pay for it all. We have never regretted it. Having said that we are not great sports fans which might have made a difference. DD pays £80+ per month for hers

GP I forgot to say in my last post that I understand what you mean about it being hard work budgeting and planning so tightly. It's fun to start with then gets a bit wearing, that's why we factor some meals out into our spending money. Not many, mind, but I think I would despair otherwise :o

  • Hey up chickies on here and hello to lovely greying.

I hope your day was fine, aside being a Monday which I know can be a bit pesky.

I'm ^thinking^ of trying jacks 9p burgers but I don't like cumin - any suggestions for subsitutes - whilst I like the idea of them, I've never had them so can't fathom what might 'work'

I had thought they might work with some cajun/fajhita type spices.

    What do you reckon?

    Hope today's been kind!

I think they would be fab with fajita type seasoning. Next time I'm gonna try ginger & lemon..........
