Painting The Exterior Of My House

I have decided to paint the exterior of my house. It was rendered few years ago and some cowboys used cheap paint which had mostly flaked off.
I have removed as much of the old paint as I can and have been advised to
treat the wall with PVA before repainting.
Is this sound advice or should i just do two coats of Sandtex??

Treat loose parts with 50/50 pva/water mix just brush it on (I got ICI PVA glue in a tin). I recommend Dulux Trade weathershield you can get it at Dulux trade counters, you dont need to be in trade, better than than retail weathershield, decorator at Dulux trade counter told me this
I just done my outside house with two coats of that paint with roller/large pole (ladders of course too) and a brush for edges of windows/sills etc0 -

A decorator told me its cheaper and just as good to use pva than to use stablishing solution0

do not PVA, its not designed to be used with paint, and definetly not to be used outside! Ask who ever advised you to use pva what their logic is, as pva is designed to re activate when wet...........not so good for outside then.
You remove all flacking paint, and if surface is powdery, then use stabliising solution

also look and see if walls have green growth on them, if they do, apply a fungacidal wash instead

If none of above are required, then paint with a quality exterior paint (i always use dulux trade, which you can get in bnq warehouse) first coat watered down a bit, then a normal second coat (watered down first coat only required if you have bare surface)go on, adopt a greyhound

The pva I have says ICI decorators 1st PVA adhesive primer and sealer.
Easy to use, multi-purpose water based PVA adhesive, primer and sealer- Trade strength
- Suitable for bonding most household and building materials
- Ideal for priming or sealing porous or dusty surfaces
- Easier mixing, toughness and stronger adhesion when added to concrete or plaster

to add, it probably flaked due to putting the paint on without watering down the first coat, to allow paint to 'bite' into new surfacego on, adopt a greyhound

poppycat, for what reason would the pva be sealing porous or dusty surfaces?
Have a look at the dulux trade website, they say nothing about using pva anywhere when painting..........infact there is no paint maufactures website that says to use pvago on, adopt a greyhound

We used it on a porous dusty rendering which seemed to do the trick.
We also used it on flaky window sills that previously had gloss paint, we peeled off loose bits and brushed on two coats of pva 50/50.
I have previous used stablishing solution (Sandtex) on another house (outside wall) it just has the same look and feel as pva mixed with water0 -
what i was trying to get you to say was what its meant to be used for, which is plastering.
If you cant grasp the fact that pva is designed to re activate when wet (hence plasterers use it), then there is no point continuing this.go on, adopt a greyhound

I never said it isnt used for plastering I was mealy saying a decorator told me that is cheaper to use that stablishing solution for the job I want, it does state that it "Ideal for priming or sealing porous or dusty surfaces"
No need for your tone "if you cant grasp the fact that pva"
I shall not add any further0
