Steam Cleaners - Any good?

Its that time of year when the oven needs detoxing - a job I hate!

I'm tempted to buy a steam cleaner like the Vax grimebuster but I've got a sneaky suspicion that I might be disappointed.

Has anyone got one or tried one?

Are they any good?

    Hi

Over the years we have bought a number of steam cleaners and to be honest unless it is just "surface" grime in the oven do not waste your money. Steam cleaners are good for killing germs and for floor, walls and worktop areas but IMO when it comes to burnt on grease and grime in an oven the only answer is a lot of elbow grease, blood, sweat and tears. OK once you have got it back to the shop bought finish and as long as it is done soon after the oven cools then perhaps a steam cleaner is the way to go but they are not the miracle answer that many of these companies try to make them out to be :0)

We have one which has been used once and is now in its box in the garage... I agree with the others.. a bit of elbow grease is the answer..

If you use this you dont even need much elbow grease I use it twice a year as long as you use the gloves provided the grease just falls off

And once you've cleaned it, use an oven liner and you will never have to clean the bottom of the oven again:

  • Ovens aside; would anyone recommend a steam cleaner for cleaning bathrooms?
I'm on the point of buying one after a recommendation but can't quite decide.
Do you apply the steam & then wipe down?

I was really hoping that you would all say it was amazing. It seems such a simple, eco friendly ( no chemicals ) way. Shame!

My shopping rule of thumb: never buy anything that is advertised to death on the shopping channels on satellite TV. It is usually junk.

I think they are great, I have 1, in fact several.

But they are all confined to my workshop, gifts from friends that didn't rate them:D

Now used to sterilise gardening equipment and to straighten hazel shafts for making fancy walking sticks. Cleaning in the home? I suppose they have their place, but my place is outside.;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
