Free boiler grants....

i have someone coming to my house next week....apparently I qualify for a new boiler...im a single workiing mum earning 14k per year..receive child tax credit and a small amout of working tax credit...I live in a old ex council house which i have a mortgage on has not been easy but was never going to get a council house and cheaper than private renting...house is falling to pieces around me mind you....but trying to keep it water proof and wind proof till i can get everything fixed....the house has a old combi boiler 16 years old..
the lady who contacted me today said Oh you qualify as long as you can show them the tax credit letter, proof that I am the homeowner a utility bill and photo id.....Im a great believer that nothing in this world is free.....there is always somewhere a price to pay.....

What should i be looking out for when this guy arrives.....a friend has just text me to say she read somewhere warnings about this - but typical cant recall where....

a new heating system would certainly help us a lot and reduce heating costs...

I really cant see this being a simple as the lady said it was otherwise loads of people would be getting this done....

last year i had someone out who said i qualified for cavity wall insullation...however when they done the survey i was a timber frame house so didnt get it.....loft is very well insullated mind you...

anyone got any advise ....or hints and tips as to what to do/say when this guy comes out...

Hi I have had a government free boiler, I completed a online form and got a call and when rhey told me I qualified I still thought something was wrong, the man came to my house checked all paperwork and took measurements of rooms, checked in the loft and said I qualified, 6 weeks later and I have a condenser combi boiler. If you qualify get it done, its a great help to me as I could not afford a new boiiler and was worried mine would break down as its 14 years old. Good luck. x

boiler installed yesterday.....and pleased with the service i got...the company i went with was Sprint ( based in Scotland) 1st guy came out to complete paperwork and take details of my income etc....2nd guy came out to do home report and installation survey....and yesterday the guys completed the installation....everyone arrived when they said they would be here....the new boiler is very probably not the best on the market...but if i was in a position to be buying a boiler it is very probably in the price range i would have went to....new boiler has replaced one which was 16 years old...so really looking forward to reducing my energy bills...and very grateful to have received the funding for this......any money i save is going to repair a very old - and starting to leak roof....
  • I received a letter from BG yesterday saying that they are going to do an assessment on the 23rd September for a new gas boiler.

That bit I'm not too concerned about, what I will be interested in is what new boiler they would suggest I have. I will arrange for my plumber friend to be here on the 23rd as I have no intention of being 'sold' a cheap bottom end product. I know what I want and have a range of boilers that I will accept.
My boiler is just over 10 years old, serviced every year and in very good condition. It has an extremely high BTU output for the size of the property. Anything of less quality or output will not be acceptable.

You might have to have what you are given Andy and be grateful!

What a silly comment, people being grateful for receiving things for free. You must think you are in another country
  • What a farce, no wonder this country is in such a state!

Its worse than you think, I actually followed the link and pretended I was on benefits and a private tenant.
I was eligible for a new boiler, how in gods name would they pay for a boiler to be put in someone elses property.
I think I may become a sponger, sure beats working for a living

If you are a private tennant you have to seek approval from the homeowner, if that is what you mean.

We received a free boiler in July and am very grateful for it.
