Talk Talk downgrading headache

I have just been on the phone to Talk Talk and I am so confused! Please can someone explain this to me?!
I am on the Talk Talk Plus package, my contract ends in Feb 2014. I phoned to downgrade to Talk Talk Essentials. I asked customer services if this would mean my contract would now end in July 2014, since it is a new contract. I am paying £114 upfront for a years line rental. I was told no, my contract would still end in Feb. But how does this work out, since I am paying line rental for one year? He also said I would still enjoy all the benefits of my current Talk Talk Plus package (free daytime calls etc.). But I've downgraded, and I am paying less per month so why am I still getting the benefits of the Talk Talk plus package??

I think you've been misinformed, as you can't normally downgrade while in minimum term. You agreed a minimum term of 12 or 18m on TT Plus.
Your contract doesn't end in 2/14, only your minimum term does.
I'd try and talk to someone at TT who has a clue (admittedly that may be a challenging prospect).
And yes, if they do allow a downgrade, that would almost certainly commence you on a new minimum term contract. Without that they would be in a straight loss of revenue. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I spoke to 3 different people at TT who all said I could downgrade.
I was surprised myself!0 -
Then at least TT are consistently clueless...
I think that your next bill may show that you cannot. No free lunch, and no free laptop
