Can't cancel BT broadband despite being out of contract

Hi,
I have broadband, phone and TV with BT. I added BT Vision Essential for £5 a month in January, so with a year's contract this runs out next January. However my broadband and phone contract expire on 23rd of this month, so I wanted to switch to another provider.
The problem is that because Vision relies on broadband, I was told that if I cancelled my broadband and phone, I would effectively be cancelling Vision as well, and would then be liable for a £137 cancellation fee, as well as the remaining £5 monthly payments.
I don't mind paying the £5 monthly payments (even though I won't use the service), because I only signed up for the cheap recorder box anyway (frankly I have no idea why anyone would pay £5 a month to access Freeview when they can get this free, but that's another story). However, because of the way this has been arranged, my Vision contract effectively gives me a broadband and phone contract as well. This seems ridiculous, as the BT call centre guy acknowledged before saying it was down to The System and he couldn't do anything about it.
Please tell me there is a way round this broadband contract by the back door. I am not trying to renege on my Vision contract but I do not see why I should be tied to broadband (or why I couldn't take Vision to another broadband provider - I don't care if it doesn't work, I only want the recorder anyway).
Any ideas welcome!
Ben

afraid you signed up for the contract , the vision contract is for a minimum of a year so you are tied to BT broadband for the duration or pay the money to buy it outEx forum ambassador

BTV has always required you to take BT's overpriced broadband product. That's made quite clear at sign-up.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
